ALTA Member Airlines Passenger Traffic Climbs 1.3% in April

Miami, June 12, 2008. – The Latin American Air Transport Association (ALTA) announced that its member airlines carried 9.2 million passengers in April, up 1.3% from last year.

Traffic (measured in RPKs) and capacity increased 5.6% and 8.5% respectively. The higher growth in ASKs than in traffic brought down the load factor to 69.0%, 1.9 percentage points less than in the previous year.

The number of passengers carried year-to-date (January ’08 – April ’08) increased 7.4% versus the same period the previous year, reaching 37.6 million passengers. During the aforementioned period, traffic (RPKs) increased 12.0%, capacity 11.3%, and passenger load factor reached 71.1%, 0.5 percentage points higher than the previous year.

Freight ton kilometers decreased 13.0% in April and 9.0% year-to-date.
