Commercial jet family has over 450 aircraft in operation
São José dos Campos, October 20, 2008 – The EMBRAER 170/190 family of E-Jets in
operation, worldwide, recently surpassed the significant mark of 2 million flight hours. The fleet
of aircraft and the customer base continue to grow rapidly, and now total over 450 jets flying for
50 airlines in more than 30 countries.
With a diversified customer base, formed by airlines having business models that vary
from regional and flag carriers to low-cost companies, the E-Jets perform at high
punctuality rates (in excess of 99.1%), excellent comfort, low fuel consumption, and
reduced operating costs.
The family’s four jets – EMBRAER 170,
EMBRAER 175, EMBRAER 190, and
EMBRAER 195 – now operate on all continents.
They have achieved an exceptionally low rate of
flight cancellations arising from technical problems
(under 0.2%, that is, less than two flights cancelled
for every 1,000 made), due to their robust design,
the Company’s solid after-sale support, and the
dedication of mechanics and engineers.
“The rapid expansion of the fleet of E-Jets, both in
geographical terms and in the diversity of airlines
that are already operating with this modern jet
family, is based on the enormous flexibility that
these aircraft offer. Since they entered operation,
the E-Jets have been an important tool for
increasing the efficiency of the airlines, and for air
transportation that provides superior comfort to
passengers,” said Mauro Kern, Embraer Executive
Vice President, Airline Market.
Since last July, 30 E-Jets sales have been announced to customers in Austria (NIKI), China
(Kun Peng), Mexico (Aeroméxico), Mozambique (LAM), Saudi Arabia (NAS Aviation), and
the Republic of Montenegro (Montenegro Airlines). The order book for the EMBRAER
170/190 family of E-Jets closed out the third quarter of 2008 with 865 firm orders and 813 options. During that period, the list of operators welcomed three new airlines: Kun Peng,
China; TACA, El Salvador; and Virgin Nigeria.
About the EMBRAER 170/190 Family of E-Jets
The EMBRAER 170/190 family of E-Jets consists of four commercial jets with 70 to 122
seats, featuring an advanced engineering design that offers outstanding performance, great
operating savings, and a spacious cabin for passengers.
The E-Jets have at a maximum cruising speed of Mach 0.82 and at 41,000 feet (12,500
meters), and a range of 2,400 nautical miles (4,400 km). The high degree of commonality
among the four aircraft results in exceptional cost reductions, in terms of crew training,
maintenance, and spare parts. Another key feature of the E-Jets is the fly-by-wire
technology used in the flight control systems, similar to that deployed on larger commercial
jets and advanced military aircraft.
The EMBRAER 170/190 family provides superior comfort with its double-bubble fuselage
design that includes two main passenger entrances and two service doors that minimize
aircraft turn-around time. The E-Jets offer much more space for passengers than other
aircraft with equivalent seating capacities.
