PHOENIX, Nov. 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Honeywell (NYSE: HON)
announced today that its newest fuel-saving Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) has
been selected to provide air conditioning, main engine starting and
electrical power for China Eastern Airlines’ recent order of 30 Airbus A320
aircraft.
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Honeywell also secured a maintenance agreement with China Eastern to
service the APUs. This 10-year contract covers the airline’s added A320
single-aisle planes, scheduled for delivery over the next three years.
“Technology incorporated into Honeywell’s APU reduces fuel consumption
by more than 5 percent, reducing emissions and total cost of ownership over
other APUs in the field,” said Mike Madsen, Honeywell Aerospace Vice
President of Airlines. “These benefits are expected provide China Eastern
more than $300,000 per year in fuel savings.”
Honeywell’s 131-9A APU originally entered service in 1998 and is in use
on more than 1,400 aircraft by 90 customers.
Honeywell’s aftermarket service programs provide a comprehensive range
of maintenance and asset availability solutions to support airline
operations throughout the life span of the aircraft. Honeywell’s wide
ranging maintenance services can also be customized to create specific
solutions that allow airlines to better manage and predict maintenance
spending, asset requirements and repair needs, while lowering operating
expenses with a reduced total cost of ownership.
