November 17, 2008
ExecuJet Middle East is adding two more business jets to its managed fleet portfolio later this month, taking the total number of aircraft offered for charter in the region to 9. The arrival of, a new-build Global 5000 earlier in the month and a further Challenger 604 and L60XR joining ExecuJet’s Dubai International Airport based fleet, alongside a recently accepted and privately managed Challenger 850.
“The ‘M’ registration is becoming increasingly popular here,” noted Mike Berry, Managing Director of ExecuJet Middle East – “with the Isle of Man registry organization being extremely responsive and professional to deal with. Owners can also choose their own personalized registration too, which they like to do” he adds.
ExecuJet Middle East is exhibiting at the Middle East Business Aviation Exhibition (MEBA) this week (Stand No 541) to highlight its aircraft management capabilities and also its expanded MRO expertise. Its bolstered 206-strong staff in the region includes 80 employees dedicated to maintenance activity – 49 engineers and technicians on the shop floor, who are averaging some 5,500 manhours each month.
With the increasing number of Bombardier business jets being supported in the region, Bombardier has added more line items to the ExecuJet managed parts depot stock – up from 1,000 to 1,500 over the past few months. ExecuJet’s Materials Department also offers enhanced opening hours from 07h00 to 23h30 as standard with, 24/7 coverage.
ExecuJet Middle East is an authorised service centre for Honeywell TFE731 (-2 through -5 including -20/-40/-50/-60), HTF7000 series engines and Auxiliary Power Units (APUs) GTCP36-100/150, RE100, RE220. This is an added benefit to operators in the region as this allows ExecuJet to provide Line Maintenance along with Warranty and MSP (Maintenance Service Plan) support to enrolled members. In addition it has recently been authorised as a Honeywell Business and General Aviation (BGA) Avionics Dealership. It is also accredited as a Rockwell Collins Business and Regional Systems (BRS) Avionics Dealership, enabling the company to support avionics installations and upgrades along with other OEM related services.
ExecuJet’s Dubai FBO supporting 70 movements a month
Along with its fleet growth, ExecuJet Middle East’s executive jet handling has expanded some 20% in the past six months handling an average number of 70 movements per month. Movements, although slow over the summer months have been buoyed by healthy activity in many countries in the region, especially Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Dubai, plus increasing demand from Russia noted Mike Berry.
During the MEBA Show the company’s FBO will be working at full capacity to accommodate an increased number of business aircraft movements. Working alongside its ground handling partner, Executive Flight Services, ExecuJet is fully geared up to handle the overflow traffic and address the challenges presented by increased movements.
ExecuJet’s FBO, located at Dubai Airport Free Zone after the customs checkpoint, provides a customer friendly and discreet service, offering a diverse range of FBO and aircraft dispatch services, including specialised and tailored services to accommodate VIP, diplomatic and crisis flights. Its stylish, traditional Arabic-style passenger lounge offers internet access, telephone and general business facilities, separate prayer room and a range of refreshments and reading material. Immigration services are provided within the facility. The building is also fully equipped to provide visiting flight crew with business facilities and a dedicated area for showering and rest.
Texas Aviation Services And Sierra Aeronautica Deliver Multiple Helicopters To Brazil
November 17, 2008
SAO PAULO, Brazil, Nov. 14, 2008 — Texas Aviation Services (TAS), a leader for 37 years in helicopter and aircraft services, along with its in-country partner Sierra Aeronautica, announced today their first set of multiple deliveries to a private organization in Brazil.
TAS recently completed and delivered its first set of helicopters to the Country of Brazil. The two Agusta 109E Powers underwent major avionics, VIP interior and high-end paint completions. The customizing included Bendix King Radars, Sky Watch HP’s, Garmin GMX-200’s, dual Garmin 430W’s and system integrations to the existing avionics suite. The crew and passenger areas were upgraded with fine leathers, carpet, plating, cabinetry and door activated soft-dim lighting. The exterior paint was applied in a fashion where the transition from one color to another could not be defined by human touch. Every effort was made by the TAS quality team to insure each seam in the leather was parallel and that every component was inspected prior to installation. Texas Aviation’s unprecedented quality was applied in every item ranging from the parallel seams in the leather to the on-staff pilots that test-flew the aircraft prior to delivery.
Upon completion TAS and the Agusta 109E’s underwent a thorough seven-day inspection process by ANAC officials. This process generally takes months upon arrival in the country of Brazil; however the TAS ANAC Repair Station completed the process in one week’s time. ANAC officials scored the documentation for the aircraft 9.5 out of 10.0. Both helicopters departed the TAS facility on Brazilian registration numbers. TAS is one of the very few ANAC-certified helicopter centers in the US.
Michael Bashlor, President of TAS said: “We are raising the bar for VIP completions in Brazil and throughout the world. These aircraft reflect only a small portion of our capabilities and TAS will continue to exceed our customer’s expectations.”
Marcos Braga, CEO of Sierra Aeronautica said, “These are the finest helicopters flying in Brazil today and they are flying advertisements of our abilities to customize helicopters to exceptional standards.”
Embraer Displays Ipanema Plane at International Biofuel Exposition
November 17, 2008
Ipanema: first series airplane in the world to be certified for flying on alcohol
Alcohol-powered airplane will shown be at the event that occurs simultaneously with the 1st
International Conference on Biofuels
São José dos Campos, November 14, 2008 – Embraer will showcase its alcohol-powered
Ipanema aircraft at the “International Biofuel Exposition”, to be held at the Hyatt Hotel, in
São Paulo, Brazil, November 17 to 21. Simultaneously to the Exposition, the “1st
International Conference on Biofuels” will take place, under the theme of “Biofuels as a
vector of sustainable development.”
“Embraer believes that the growth of the aviation industry will use sustainable biofuels in
the mid- to long-term,” said Satoshi Yokota, Executive Vice-President, Strategic Planning
and Technology Development of Embraer. “That is why the Company invests in research
and development of environmentally efficient products, including biofuels. The Ipanema is
proof of that fact, and is the first airplane in the world to be produced in series that is
certified to fly on alcohol.”
The objective of the event is to contribute to the international discussion of the challenges and
opportunities presented by biofuels, and it will be attended by representatives of governments,
international agencies, lawmakers, the scientific and academic community, private enterprise,
corporations and NGOs, among others. As the leader of the Brazilian agricultural market,
with around a 75% share, the Ipanema is manufactured by Embraer and sold by Neiva, a
wholly owned subsidiary of Embraer located in the
city of Botucatu, in outstate São Paulo. After 35 years of uninterrupted production, over 1,000 units
have been delivered.
The Ipanema aircraft is a crop-duster, and it can also be used to fight fires, pull gliders, and for
other applications. Originally gasoline-powered, the Ipanema is the first series airplane in the
world to be certified for flying on alcohol. Since 2005, 54 of the alcohol-powered models
have been delivered, totaling a fleet of 224 flying in Brazil with this type of fuel, which is two
or three times cheaper than aviation fuel. Alcohol improves the overall performance of the airplane and reduces operating and maintenance costs, as well as having a considerably lower
impact on the environment.
This is one of the practices implemented by Embraer in recent years, in order to ease the
emission of greenhouse gases and other environmental problems. Therefore, the Company
was the first in the worldwide aviation industry to receive ISO 14001 environmental
certification, which stands in witness to correct environmental practices.
“The Robinson R44 Grand” Earns STC for Sagem Avionics Glass Cockpit Retrofit
November 17, 2008
Grand Prairie, TX – November 14, 2008
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) granted a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for installation of a two display configuration of Sagem Avionics (SAFRAN Group) Integrated Cockpit Display System (ICDS) in the Robinson R44 helicopter. The glass panel solution has since been renamed “The R44 Grand” by the owner of the aircraft and STC holder ASAP Avionics of Vancouver Island, Canada.
“The R44 Grand” solution includes two AMLCD 8-inch displays mounted in portrait mode. The system integrates Primary Flight Instruments, Engine Instruments and other Multifunction Display system functions such as enhanced vision when linked to a camera, TOPS – Terrain Obstacle Proximity System and many others. The Sagem Avionics ICDS proves to be partircularly user friendly as pilots that have flown with it have acclimated to its operation within thirty minutes of use.
The combination of these features results in better dispatch-ability, better reliability, lower operating costs, and safer operation by increased situational awareness.
ASAP Avionics’ unique installation replaces the entire integrated pedestal, thereby reducing down time and cost for follow-on installations. It also provides the aircraft operators’ higher resale-ability and less costly route to update to new mandates and/or mission needs.

RDT presents new in-flight telemedicine product Tempus ICTM at MEBA 16th – 18th November 2008
November 17, 2008
RDT, the UK-based remote medical monitoring specialist, is showcasing its new Tempus ICTM telemedicine device at the annual MEBA Conference in Dubai, Stand No 542. Tempus ICTM allows even a non-medical user to take and transmit eight key vital signs, giving doctors on the ground the clinical data needed for confident diagnosis and fast treatment, even whilst in-flight. RDT has secured over one hundred global pre-orders for the system from commercial airlines, maritime, private aircraft owners and VIP clients including leading commercial airlines V Australia and Emirates. Emirates have selected Tempus ICTM for a fleet wide upgrade and for their new A380s. “Securing this many pre-orders is testament to the step change this innovative product brings to the market.” said RDT CEO Graham Murphy.
This is the first time that RDT has exhibited at MEBA. “Clients in the business aviation industry are highly sophisticated and accustomed to receiving the highest quality products and customer care. MEBA represents an excellent opportunity for us to demonstrate to an important market that, with Tempus ICTM, getting the best medical attention no longer depends on being in the right place at the right time” said Murphy.
The device enables users to collect key vital signs including blood pressure, pulse and 12-lead electrocardiogram. It transmits this data over existing communications technology to a chosen medical response centre. It also includes a voice and video link that enable the doctor to see and hear the user, and is the next best thing to having a physician present.
Tempus ICTM with its full telemedicine capabilities is a much smaller, lighter and more robust version of RDT’s existing product Tempus 2000. Built on the pedigree of Tempus 2000, Tempus ICTM delivers a world class telemedicine device. The latest generation of business aircraft are flying higher and over longer range. RDT believe any investment owners and companies make in preparing for an in-flight emergency is both sound and responsible. “The business aviation market is where RDT started out 10 years ago and it remains extremely important to the success of our business. Sales from this sector currently account for about 40% of its customer base and RDT is being represented by a global team of sales and key account managers to service the market” said RDT CEO Graham Murphy.
“Tempus ICTM is invaluable when remotely managing a medical situation, because it gives MedAire’s MedLink doctors the clinical quality data needed to make a better diagnostic impression. The parameters available when taking a Tempus call are essentially the same as those one would have in most ER rooms.” said Paulo M. Alves, M.D., Vice President of Medical Services, MedAire Inc.
RDT delivered the first systems to customers in October. “Tempus ICTM better meets the needs of our customers and, for RDT, improves access to existing markets and expedites expansion into new markets such as the military where previews are being very well received” says Murphy.
RDT’s Middle Eastern client base already includes Royal Jet, Dubai Airwing, Bahrain Royal Flight and Royal Flight Oman. “We felt adding the advanced Tempus service on board the fleet enables Royal Jet to maintain its commitment towards VIPs such as royalty, ministers, celebrities, senior executives and individuals requiring absolute discretion in their travels” says Captain Tilmann Gabriel, CEO, Royal Jet.

Executive Beechcraft Celebrates 70 Years

Executive Beechcraft Celebrates 70 Years
in General Aviation and the Community
Kansas City Downtown (MKC)
(Kansas City, MO) A lot can happen in 70 years – and it has! The price of a new car, for example, averaged $763 in 1938. Fueling that car cost about twenty cents per gallon. Change isn’t new. Having a front row seat to that change is monumental – and something Executive Beechcraft has enjoyed for seven, long decades leading up to its Nov. 15th Anniversary celebration.
Since 1938, Executive Beechcraft, Inc. has been an integral part of the Kansas City and St. Louis communities. In fact, Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius and Missouri Governor Matt Blunt noted the company’s business leadership and longevity in both states with official proclamations declaring November 15, 2008 as Executive Beechcraft Day.
Today, the company is considered one of the most well recognized general aviation fixed-base operators in the country, specializing in aircraft sales and support, maintenance, avionics and aircraft management. Outside the aviation industry specifically, Executive Beechcraft likely touched the lives of many Kansas and Missouri individuals in those same 70 years – whether it was a neighbor learning to fly, a child watching his or her first air show or a dad leaving for a business trip.
“We’ve been here through it all,” says Ed Chevrestt, Vice President and General Manager of Executive Beechcraft. “In fact, EB’s downtown Kansas City facility even dates back to the founding days of Trans World Airlines (TWA), where Howard Hughes himself had an office!”
For corporate America, Executive Beechcraft has long helped business and industry climb to success with an unmatched business tool – the airplane. Even before corporate aviation earned widespread attention, Executive Beechcraft had a hand in early business air travel – especially with the entrepreneurial community for which Kansas City is known.
Additionally, Executive Beechcraft’s heartland location has served it well – particularly its downtown Kansas City facility at the Charles B. Wheeler Airport. As general aviation, corporate and cargo/freight aircraft navigate cross country, Executive Beechcraft is geographically centered as an ideal midway point for refueling and crew rest, as well as providing aircraft maintenance when needed. In fact, in the shadows of Kansas City’s bustling downtown skyline, as many as 700 aircraft per day take off or land at this airport, originally dedicated by Charles Lindbergh back in 1927.
But it’s not all business at Executive Beechcraft. The company is vitally involved in civic, charitable and community efforts such Challenge Air which introduces physically handicapped children to aviation; Angel Flight Central which arranges free non-emergency flights for patients and their families to specialized medical treatment across the country as well as disaster response and compassion flights, and Midwest Transplant Network which provides air transport of life saving organs to patients in need of a new heart, kidney or liver.
Of course, Executive Beechcraft has experienced its own change over the years. The company that began as a family business was sold in 2007, and is now a part of BBA Aviation, a global provider of aviation services and flight support based in London.
More change is on the way for EB, with a renovation now in progress at its downtown flagship facility. The project is expected to be complete in early 2009.
“The EB family is a great team with a proud 70 year tradition,” Chevrestt said. “Seventy years in this competitive business is a testament to company founder Dan Meisinger, Sr. and the people who have made EB a success.”
In addition to celebrating its 70th anniversary at the downtown Kansas City facility, Executive Beechcraft will be celebrating at each of its three other locations: Kansas City’s International Airport (MCI), Johnson County’s New Century Airport (IXD) and Spirit of St. Louis Airport (SUS).

German Forces Test Bental’s Stabilized Camera System
November 17, 2008
Bental Motion Systems’ latest development, a stabilized camera system
for Micro and Mini-UAV, is currently being tested for use at
the German Armed Forces.
Frankfurt, November 11th 2008: German Federal Office of Defense Technology and Procurement assigned UAV manufacturer EMT with testing of the MicroBAT 275, Bental’s latest development of a stabilized camera system for light weight UAVs. The intention of the tests is to equip close range UAVs in the field with Bental’s stabilized camera system.
“With the use of Bental’s stabilized camera system we hope to improve the picture quality of surveillance flights by our close range unmanned aerial vehicles,” says Guenter Freiwald, Project Manager Close Range UAV at the German Federal Office of Defense Technology and Procurement.
Headquartered in Israel, Bental manufactures electrical motion systems for aerospace and defense applications. Bental’s latest development, a stabilized gimbal with daylight or night vision camera MicroBAT 275, optimally suits for integrating imaging sensors usually only found on larger platforms into light weight UAV.
“Our stabilized camera system MicroBAT 275 has a diameter of 2.75 inch and a weight including housing, of only 350g,” says Oliver Kittan, representative of Bental in Germany, “This likely makes it the most light-weight and compact camera system of its kind in the world.”
Several UAV manufacturers have already integrated Bental’s stabilized camera system into their platforms. Among them are ITL with their UAV Lightener, and Oto Melara and Celin Avio with their UAV Ibis.
German UAV manufacturer, EMT, is currently testing integration of Bental’s camera system into its UAV systems. “The low weight of Bental’s stabilized camera system, MicroBAT 275, predestines it for use in EMT´s family of UAVs”, says Kittan.
