The new agreement is in addition to 34 Open Skies agreements which Chile has in place, as the leader in liberalizing air traffic. The Brazilian agreement eliminates the restrictions, which existed in the bilateral agreement, to 42 weekly flights by airlines of each country. It also has increased the beyond and long haul markets which had been limited to 21 weekly flights for each country, to a total of 28 with seven additional beyond flights in each year, 2010, 2011 and 2012. Brazil is Chile’s second largest market with 800,000 passengers flown between the two countries yearly.
