Madrid, December 9, 2008 – EADS’ Military Transport Aircraft Division (MTAD) has been certified to Capability Maturity Model Integration Level 3 (CMMI 3) specifications, further validating the company’s commitment to and success in applying rigorous process improvement standards in its aircraft, systems and software for U.S. military and homeland defense requirements.
This certification was awarded to EADS following its successful completion of the SCAMPI (Standard CMMI Appraisal Method for Process Improvement) evaluation, and is applicable to division platforms and programs such as the Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT), Northrop Grumman KC-45 Tanker, the EADS A400M multi-role airlifter, and EADS CASA’s C-295/CN-235 family of tactical aircraft.
CMMI is a process improvement approach created by members of industry, government and the Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute (SEI). Leading sponsors of the CMMI’s development included the U.S. Defense Department’s Office of the Secretary of Defense and the National Defense Industrial Association.
“The CMMI methodology is a recognized standard and highly valued by the U.S. Defense Department – especially where software is involved in weapons systems, and is an important validation as EADS expands its offerings to the U.S. military and homeland security marketplace,” said Ralph D. Crosby, Jr., Chairman and CEO of EADS North America. “CMMI Level 3 is a rating that takes a significant effort to achieve, underscoring the excellence of EADS’ software engineering, technological development and program management —accomplishments which can be applied to our other U.S. military program activities.”
EADS is a global leader in aerospace, defence and related services. In 2007, EADS generated revenues of € 39.1 billion and employed a workforce of about 116,000. The Group includes the aircraft manufacturer Airbus, the world’s largest helicopter supplier Eurocopter and EADS Astrium, the European leader in space programmes from Ariane to Galileo.

Its Defence & Security Division is a provider of comprehensive systems solutions and makes EADS the major partner in the Eurofighter consortium as well as a stakeholder in the missile systems provider MBDA. EADS also develops the A400M through its Military Transport Aircraft Division.
