Hamilton Sundstrand Equipment Contributes to Successful ARJ21 First Flight

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Hamilton Sundstrand’s hardware has contributed to the ARJ21 regional jet’s successful first flight. Hamilton Sundstrand, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), was also recognized by the aircraft’s manufacturer for its support leading up to first flight.

Built by AVIC I Commercial Aircraft (ACAC) of Shanghai, the 90-seat ARJ21-700 prototype took off from Dachang Airport, near the manufacturer’s assembly plant, on Nov. 28 and flew for 61 minutes at an altitude of 8,200 feet. The ARJ21 is expected to enter into service in 2010.

Hamilton Sundstrand is a key systems supplier on the ARJ21, supplying the electric power system, including the APS3200 Auxiliary Power Unit; the Ram Air Turbine; the high-lift actuation system, which includes flap and slat actuators, drive train, power drive units and controllers; and the electrical power generation, primary distribution and emergency power system.

At a recent ARJ supplier conference in Shanghai, ACAC recognized Hamilton Sundstrand for its excellent on-site support leading up to the ARJ21’s first flight.

Hamilton Sundstrand’s suite of ARJ21 systems is expected to generate approximately $1.2 billion in revenue over the life of the program.
