Southern Star Adds Cessna 210 Series to their Entegra Retrofit AML; Enables CrownAir to begin deliveries of Centurion Edition refurb of Cessna T210 which feature new paint, interior, engine, and a full Entegra All-Glass Flight Deck.
Lincoln, MA – December 18, 2008 – Avidyne Corporation, a leading provider of integrated flight deck and safety systems for general aviation aircraft, announced today that through their partnership with Southern Star Avionics of Mobile, AL, and Crownair Aviation, Inc. of San Diego, they have received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for the retrofit installation of Avidyne’s Entegra integrated flight deck in Cessna 210 and T210 Series single-engine piston aircraft.
The Avidyne Entegra suite is part of Crownair’s “Centurion Edition” refurbishment program that includes the dual-display Entegra Glass Flight Deck, a new S-TEC 55X autopilot, Hartzell Scimitar Heated Prop, WAAS-capable GPS systems, new paint, a new deluxe interior, extensive engine modifications, and a J.P. Instruments digital engine monitor.
“Crownair’s 210 retrofit program will provide these aircraft owners with the latest in safety and situational awareness capabilities and a beautiful new panel for a fraction of the cost of buying a new airplane,” said Tom Greer, President, Southern Star Aviation. “We appreciate the opportunity to partner with Crownair and Avidyne to leverage our certification expertise and and help to make big-glass flight deck retrofits available to a larger population of general aviation aircraft.”
“Entegra’s beautiful 10.4-inch displays provide a stunning panel upgrade that complements all the other improvements we are making to these aircraft as part of our Centurion Edition program,” said Grant Murray, CEO of Crownair Aviation. “It’s a great match of yet another proven aircraft with the legendary ease-of-use of Avidyne’s avionics, and we are very pleased to have developed a partnership with Southern Star to get this aircraft added to their AML .”
“With over 8,400 produced, the Cessna 210 series is one of the most popular high-performance single-engine piston aircraft, and Crownair’s Centurion Edition upgrade increases its performance and utility,” said Rob Higby, Avidyne’s vice president of sales, marketing, and customer service. With their deep experience and broad expertise, Southern Star continues to be an invaluable partner in adding yet another STC to our expanding Entegra Retrofit AML.”
The 210 and T210 were once Cessna’s top-of-the-line single-engine piston aircraft and are still widely used IFR cross-country cruisers. This STC provides the basis for future installations of the Entegra suite into the more than 8,400 Cessna 210-series aircraft that were built between 1959 and 1985.
In addition the the Cessna 210 series, Entegra systems are also available for retrofit in a growing list of aircraft makes and models including Cessna 441 Conquest IIs, King Air 200s, and King Air 90 Series turboprops, Cessna 300 and 400 Series piston twins, and pre-Entegra-equipped Cirrus SR20 and SR22 single-engine piston aircraft. Southern Star holds the AML STC for the entire list of single-PFD aircraft installations.
About the Entegra System
The Entegra system certified for the Cessna 210 and T210 aircraft includes an Avidyne EXP5000 Primary Flight Display (PFD), an Avidyne EX5000 Multi-Function Display (MFD) and Mid-Continent Instruments 2-inch standby altimeter, airspeed indicator and attitude indicator instruments.
The 10.4-inch diagonal PFD shows standard flight instrumentation and pilot-selectable moving-map flight plan data, horizontal situation indicator (EHSI), a Bearing pointer, digital RMI readouts and integrated flight director command bars. The PFD is integrated with a solid-state air data and attitude/heading reference system (ADAHRS) providing full redundancy as well as much higher reliability than traditional “spinning-mass” gyros.
The 10.4-inch diagonal EX5000 MFD features a high-resolution moving map display that can show flight plan information and Avidyne’s exclusive two-way MultiLink™ datalink weather service. Options include an EGPWS/TAWS display, lightning and traffic. Additional options include Avidyne’s CMax™ electronic approach charts and MultiLink™ capability. CMax displays Jeppesen’s approach charts and airport diagrams on the EX5000 MFD. MultiLink is Avidyne’s dual-system datalink architecture which supports the display of Avidyne’s MLB700 Satellite Broadcast Datalink Weather for datalink weather across most of North America, and the MLX770 Two-Way Datalink Transceiver for world-wide datalink weather and text messaging.
