According to an article in America Economia. Brazil’s aircraft manufacturer, Embraer, is betting on Latin American aviation for its future growth in the world market. It bases its optimism on the expansion of regional airlines like Azul, Trip and Aeromexico Connect. Corporations from different sectors of the economy are showing their interest in investing and focusing their operations in Latin Americas, basing their interest in the potential growth of the economies in the region and its resistance to the global economic crisis. Luiz Hamilton Lima, who has been appointed vice president for Latin America by Embraer said: “We anticipate that Latin America will be one of the most dynamic markets for Embraer”. Latin America is responsible for merely 8.3% of the revenues for the manufacturer, but it is forecasting sales of 450 aircraft with 90-120 seats by 2028. 230 will be sold between 2009 and 2018. The manufacturer has orders worth $20.9 billion with 270 deliveries in 2009. Definitely with less than 10% of the 500 million people living in Latin America using air transportation, the potential for stimulating the market with low fares is significant. And its not just LCCs (as mentioned above) but legacy airlines like Copa among others. Low fares being offered by legacy airlines like LAN in its domestic markets in Chile, Argentina and Peru are also stimulating the market.
