Aircraft will be operated under a lease with Jetscape, Inc. São José dos Campos, April 8, 2009
Embraer delivered an EMBRAER 170 jet, today, to Australia’s Darwin-based Airnorth,
during a ceremony held at Embraer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos,
Brazil. The airline is the launch customer of the EMBRAER 170 in Australia, and is now
adding this new aircraft to its fleet. The jet will be operated by Airnorth under a lease
with Jetscape, Inc., and comes from Jetscape’s firm orders.
“We are honored by the continued enthusiastic attitude of Airnorth toward our aircraft,” said
Mauro Kern, Embraer Executive Vice President, Airline Market. “The airline began using
Embraer planes with the EMB 120 Brasilia turboprop, in 1996, and has been a loyal
customer ever since. It is a great pleasure to now support the expansion of their operations
with another EMBRAER 170.”
The EMBRAER 170 delivered to Airnorth is configured with 76 seats in a single-class layout.
The jet allows the airline to operate fully loaded direct services in any direction from Darwin,
capital of the Northern Territory, to every Australian capital city, as well as Jakarta
(Indonesia), Singapore, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Manila (Philippines), among other
destinations, with an outstanding comfort level.
“Customer response to this aircraft, in every single market where we have operated it, has
been overwhelming,” said Airnorth’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Bridge. “The first
aircraft has operated over 4,000 flights, since it was commissioned in August 2007.”
Airnorth intends to continue expanding its services into the markets currently served, and to
work with industry partners to assess a number of new opportunities. Several of the airline’s
corporate clients are also very interested in getting access to the EMBRAER 170, putting the
seal of approval on Airnorth Board’s decision to operate four of these planes by mid-2010.
The EMBRAER 170, plus the EMBRAER 175, the EMBRAER 190 and the EMBRAER 195,
form the E-Jets family, which had logged 876 firm orders and 810 options by December 31,2008. With more than 500 aircraft delivered, the E-Jets had surpassed 2.4 million flight hours andcarried over 100 million passengers, worldwide.
About Airnorth
Airnorth (www.airnorth.com.au) celebrated its 30th anniversary, in 2008, and is the major
regional airline, operating out of Darwin, the capital city of Australia’s Northern Territory. It is
also the country’s third largest regional airline and second longest in continuous operation, after Qantas. The airline currently operates 168 scheduled departures per week, including
international services to Dili (East Timor). In addition to these scheduled departures, one-third of Airnorth’s revenue is generated by long-term contract charter services for a wide variety of companies involved in mining, oil and gas, defense, and government activities.
About Jetscape
Based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States, Jetscape (www.jetscape.aero) was founded
in 2000 as an aircraft lessor and provider of management, remarketing and consulting
services. In 2002, the company acquired International Aircraft Investors, an aircraft lessor
with a portfolio of 14 commercial narrowbody jets. During the worst downturn in aviation
history, Jetscape was able to recapitalize and restructure the fleet to fit within its portfolio
management philosophy. In a few short years, Jetscape has become one of the premier
boutique aircraft leasing and services companies.
About the EMBRAER 170/190 Family of E-Jets
The EMBRAER 170/190 family of E-Jets consists of four commercial jets with 70 to 122
seats, featuring advanced engineering design, efficient performance, outstanding operating
economics, low emission levels and a spacious cabin.
The E-Jets have a maximum cruising speed of Mach 0.82, can fly at 41,000 feet (12,497 meters), and have ranges of up to 2,400 nautical miles (4,448 km). The high degree of commonality among the four aircraft – EMBRAER 170, EMBRAER 175, EMBRAER 190 and EMBRAER 195 – results in exceptional savings for carriers, in terms of crew training and costs of spare parts and maintenance.
Another key feature of the E-Jets is the state-of-the-art fly-by-wire technology, which increases
operating safety, while reducing pilot workload and fuel consumption.
