CAE introduces new corporate Flight Operations Quality Assurance service and evidence-based training enhancements through CAE Flightscape

ORLANDO, FLORIDA–(Marketwire – Oct. 20, 2009) – (TSX:CAE)(NYSE:CAE) – CAE announced today at the National Business Aircraft Association (NBAA) annual convention, a new program for business aviation customers that will incorporate a Flight Operations Quality Assurance (FOQA) service and enhance training using evidence-based scenarios derived from analysis of real-world flight data.

Both capabilities are delivered using CAE Flightscape software tools, the industry standard flight data analysis and visualization solution for aircraft manufacturers, government agencies, regional airlines, and major air carriers.

The new service is available to customers who train pilots or maintenance technicians at CAE’s business aviation training centers in Dallas, New York, London and Dubai.

“The CAE Flightscape software tools and our experienced analysts will enable customers to reduce operations and maintenance costs by monitoring fleet safety performance using information downloaded from their flight data recorders,” said Jeff Roberts, CAE’s Group President, Civil Simulation Products, Training and Services. “In addition, it will enable them to tailor training using interactive 3D flight animations that help instructors and pilots visualize actual aircraft or simulator events.”

The launch customer for the new service is a Fortune 100 company which operates a large fleet of Gulfstream aircraft. Customer needs around the world require their pilots to fly in a variety of air traffic and weather conditions and into a wide range of airports.

“The unique capabilities of CAE Flightscape will provide them with an extra level of safety and familiarization based on the specific routes they fly,” said Roberts. “They also expect to realize long-term cost savings by applying CAE Flightscape recommended improvements to flight and aircraft maintenance operations.”

CAE Flightscape uses an aircraft operator’s own data, captured directly from a flight data recorder (FDR) or quick access recorder (QAR). No resident flight data expertise is required by the business aircraft operator. The information can be provided to CAE through a secure website. Data is evaluated by trusted, neutral expert analysts using best practices methodologies, and their analysis and safety action recommendations are accessible to the customer 24/7 from any internet connection. Customers maintain full ownership and access to their flight data without the infrastructure costs typically associated with housing an internal corporate FOQA program.

Customers can also help improve aviation industry safety by sharing data trends with a network of aircraft OEMs, government agencies, and their aviation peers through the International Air Transport Association (IATA), a CAE Flightscape partner.
