Ethiopian Airlines Orders GE90-115B Engines for Boeing 777 Fleet

DUBAI – November 16, 2009 – Ethiopian Airlines has ordered five
GE90-115B-powered Boeing 777-200LR aircraft. Aircraft deliveries are
scheduled to begin in late 2010. The engine order is valued at more than
$350 million (USD) list price.

“Ethiopian Airlines is the first African airline to order the
GE90-115B-powered Boeing 777-200LR aircraft and was the first African
airline to order GEnx engines for its Boeing 787 aircraft,” said Kevin
McAllister, vice president and general manager of Sales, GE Aviation.
“GE Aviation is extremely proud of the trust and confidence Ethiopian
Airlines has in our outstanding engine products, and we look forward to
working with them to ensure successful entry into service.”

The CEO of Ethiopian Airlines Ato Girma Wake stated “As a rapidly
growing world-class African airline, we’re enhancing our reach and
offering better choices to our customers through continuous expansion of
our route network. Alongside the rapid growth and expansion, we continue
to hold dear our social values and responsibly discharge our social
obligations in protecting the environment. Our purchase of the GE
engines, we believe, will be of help to us in achieving our objective
and reaffirming our commitment to our corporate social
responsibilities.”

One of the largest airlines in Africa and the flag carrier of Ethiopia,
Ethiopian Airlines provides seamless world-wide connections from its
Addis Ababa hub. The airline operates one of the newest and youngest
aircraft fleets in the world.

As the world’s largest, highest-thrust commercial engine, the GE90-115B
engine powers the Boeing 777-200LR, -300ER and Freighter aircraft. The
engine is one of the quietest per pound of thrust and exhibits superior
fuel burn and lower overall emissions due in part to its advanced
combustor. The combustor meets all current international emissions
standards with margin, including no more than 40 percent of the
allowable hydrocarbons.

The GE90-115B engine has proven to be tremendously popular with
customers around the world, with more than 1,000 engines being sold. The
GE90-115B engine has logged more than four million flight hours since
entering service in 2004.

Snecma of France, Avio SpA. of Italy, and IHI of Japan are
revenue-sharing participants in the GE90 program.

The GE90-115B is part of GE’s “ecomagination” product portfolio — GE’s
commitment to develop new, cost-effective technologies that enhance
customers’ fuel efficiencies and operating performance.
