St. Louis, Mo., 14 April, 2010 – Aerospace Filtration Systems, Inc. (AFS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Donaldson Company, Inc. (NYSE:DCI) and a division of the Aerospace and Defense Group, has received a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) approval from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Authority (ANAC) for an Inlet Barrier Filter (IBF) system for the Eurocopter EC130 B4 and Eurocopter AS350B3 helicopters with dual hydraulic systems.
Donaldson Inlet Barrier Filter systems are already in use on Eurocopter AS350 and EC130 models worldwide, providing reliable performance to operators worldwide, performing law enforcement, air medical, firefighting, news gathering and utility missions.
“We are very pleased to now offer our proven EC130/AS350B3 IBF to operators in Brazil,” said Donaldson St. Louis Business Development Director Robert Stenberg. “This important ANAC certification gives individual and mixed fleet operators the ability to equip their helicopters with the best engine protection available.” The approval allows operation to the basic inlet performance charts with no inlet driven flight or gross weight restrictions, and pilots have the option to use the sand filter performance charts when required.
The Donaldson system features a sealed intake plenum that replaces the inlet screens, sand filter/particle separator or alternate barrier filter. Design of the IBF allows easy installation, utilizing the existing cowl with top surface modification only. The filter and aft-facing bypass system are flush with the upper surface of the EC130 or B3 dual hydraulic cowling, utilizing an internal bypass plenum. The bypass capability is an important IBF safety feature that is lacking in most traditional sand filters and particle separators.
Providing the most comprehensive line of IBF solutions, Donaldson Aerospace & Defense is the industry leader in the design, development and manufacture of high-performance engine IBF systems for commercial and military propulsion systems.
Through their Donaldson St. Louis location, AFS provides certified IBF solutions for the following:
