Spain and Norway to Develop Communications Satellite

Spain and Norway signed and agreement for joint development
of a new communications satellite known as HISNORSAT.
The high capacity satellite, which is scheduled to be launched
in 2014, will meet the strategic communications need of Spain
and Norway in the military and civilian spheres.
The Spanish satellite operator, that is responsible for secure
government communications, will be the project leader with a
60 percent share, while the Norwegian Defense Logistics
Organization will participate with a 40 percent share.
HISNORSAT will join two secure communications satellites
that Spain already operates.
Spain is also building two observations satellites that will
be launched between 2012 and 2014.
