Israel Aerospace Industries’ Heron UAS Has Flown Across the Andes in a Demonstration Held for a South American Customer

October 23, 2012

Israel Aerospace Industries’ (IAI) Heron Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) has marked a new achievement last month when crossing the Andes during an operational flight demonstration held in a South American country.

The system successfully demonstrated its advanced abilities for long range missions using Satellite communication for control and activation. The UAS was carrying a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), Electro Optical payload for day and night use, and a communication intelligence system. The Heron reliably performed various day and night flights during several days of activity, at ranges extending over 500 km and at altitudes of more than 25,000 ft. The system successfully demonstrated its performance under the extreme weather conditions which are typical to the Andes, including strong winds, very heavy cloudiness and icing conditions.

French Court Rules in Favor of Bell Helicopter

Bell 429 Production Skid Gear does not infringe on Eurocopter patent

Fort Worth, TX – October 16, 2012 – Bell Helicopter, a Textron Inc. (NYSE: TXT) company announced in the case of Eurocopter vs. Bell Helicopter, a three Judge panel of France’s Tribunal de Grande Instance de Paris recently ruled that the Bell 429 production skid gear does not infringe Eurocopter’s French landing skid gear patent. All Bell 429s have been and will continue to be delivered with the current production gear.

“This ruling by the French court, once again validating the design of the Bell 429 production skid gear, is a resounding victory for Bell Helicopter,” said John L. Garrison, President and CEO of Bell Helicopter. “Integrity is woven into the fiber of our company and we work tirelessly to ensure our actions are consistent with this core value.”

In finding that the Bell 429’s skid gear does not infringe the Eurocopter patent, the French Court dismissed the claims against Bell Helicopter.  The Court also ordered Eurocopter to pay the costs of the proceedings, and to pay BHTI and Bell Canada each the sum of €65,000 in costs.

“We intend to continue to vigorously defend the production gear in the pending Eurocopter infringement suit in the U.S. This ruling underscores the Canadian court’s decision in a similar ruling in favor of Bell Helicopter and provides strong support for our position,” said Garrison.

The Bell 429 is the world’s newest and most advanced light twin-engine helicopter. It has set the standard for light twins; delivers exceptional speed, range, hover performance and enhanced safety margins, with comfort and cost management unmatched by any competitor. PILATUS PC-12 PILOT MAKES 200TH ATLANTIC CROSSING

October 19, 2012

In a ceremony today at Pilatus Business Aircraft Ltd in Broomfield, Colorado,
ferry pilot Roger Engel was honored for his 200th and final PC-12 delivery flight.
Taxiing into Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport under the arches of water jets
fired 40 feet into the air by the airfield’s fire trucks, delivery pilot Roger Engel
was welcomed by the entire staff of Pilatus Business Aircraft Ltd. Engel just
completed his 200th delivery of a Pilatus PC-12 to the Broomfield, Colorado
business which handles all completions work for new aircraft being prepared for
customers in North and South America.
Engel’s flight path followed a routine quite familiar to him: 22-hours of total
flight time over 3 days, starting in Stans, Switzerland and making stops in
Prestwick Scotland, Reykjavik Iceland, Kangerlussuaq Greenland, Iqaluit
Nunavit, Thunder Bay Ontario, and finally to his destination just outside Denver.
The ceremony in Broomfield also served a dual purpose: this was to be Roger
Engel’s final flight before retiring as a delivery pilot for Pilatus. Commenting on
this significant milestone, Engel modestly stated, “The PC-12, as usual,
performed flawlessly on the whole flight.” And, on Engel’s 200th and final flight,
he accomplished his mission with a perfect record.
While most of Engel’s trips have been solo, he has been joined on several
occasions by PC-12 owners who want to make the adventurous journey in their
new aircraft. Customers learn a lot sitting next to Roger for 3 days, but Pilatus’
goal is to ensure the ocean crossing is anything but adventurous.

Pilot training: ATR obtains the first certification in France under the new EASA rules

October 19, 2012

ATR’s Training Center today obtained the FR.ATO.0001 certificate. This makes it the very first training organization in France to meet the new European “PART FCL” standards, which now define the EC regulations for pilots’ licenses. ATR thus becomes the first “Approved Training Organization” in France under this new regulation put forth by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).

The certificate was presented to ATR by the French Directorate General for Civil Aviation (DGAC), which validated the implementation of these new rules by ATR. These rules require restructuring the organization of pilot training and revision of the training manuals, which are now harmonized on a European scale, as well as the integration of a new safety management system in the framework of pilot training. In France, approximately 800 organizations are concerned by these new regulations. These organizations include aircraft manufacturers, airlines, training centers and flying clubs, for which pilot training is also a part of their activities.

Ms. Florence Rousse, Civil Aviation Safety Director, highlighted “ATR’s high degree of responsiveness in order to comply with the new EASA regulations as quickly as possible.” And added: “This first certification in France will no doubt have a very positive effect on the other organizations, with the aim of ensuring full compliance between now and end of April 2013, the deadline for making the transition to this new regulation.”

Mr. Lilian Braylé, ATR’s Senior Vice-President Product Support & Services, was “delighted to have obtained the very first ATO certification in France. This certification underlines the quality of the training offered and the modern nature of the tools made available to our students. With the growth of the ATR fleet worldwide, we owe it to ourselves to guarantee excellence in the trainings we offer. Obtaining this new certification fits into this context of high standards and illustrates the responsiveness that we demonstrated to implement it.”

In the next months SuperJet International will be responsible for the new interiors “Supplemental Type Certificate” (EASA STC) achievement, as well as the customization and painting activities on Interjet aircraft, which will be accomplished at the SJI completion center in Tessera, Venice. As requested by the customer, SSJ100 interiors will be marked by Pininfarina Italian style.

“This Roll-In Ceremony represents the beginning of a new industrial activity in Venice, which confirms the strategic role and value of Tessera aeronautics premises for the entire Italian aeronautic sector” states Carmelo Cosentino, President and Chairman of the Board of SuperJet International.

“After a long period of preparation, we are really proud to welcome the first Interjet SSJ100 in Venice. This important milestone proves the outstanding level of team-work between Italian and Russian partners with the merging of know-how and experiences” says Nazario Cauceglia, Chief Executive Officer of SuperJet International.

Interjet signed a contract for the purchase of 20 SSJ100 aircraft with a configuration of 93 seats. The order has a total value of 700 million dollars, including the 5 options converted in firm orders at the recent Farnborough airshow in London.

SuperJet International plans to complete and deliver the first Interjet SSJ100 in March 2013. In November 2012 the first FFS simulator will arrive in Venice and it will be installed at the SJI Training Center to enable the Mexican carrier’s pilots to start training in January 2013.

The SSJ100 aircraft is a competitive product in terms of low fuel consumption, low operating costs and maximum comfort.
The Sukhoi Superjet 100 is currently the most important industrial program between the Russian Federation and the rest of the world in the field of the civil aviation.
