FAA Approves Type Certification for S-76D™ Helicopter

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved the Type Certificate for the S-76D™ helicopter, moving the aircraft forward to its highly anticipated delivery into the medium-sized marketplace. Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX).
The FAA signed the certificate on Oct. 12, capping an intensive flight test program to introduce the S-76D helicopter, Sikorsky’s newest commercial product. The S-76D helicopter has a current backlog approaching a half-billion dollars and is expected to begin deliveries later this quarter.

We are equally excited to deliver a new product that represents three and a half decades of continuous product improvement, to offer them a helicopter with improved efficiency, power and best-in-class noise signature,” said Carey Bond, President of Sikorsky Global Helicopters.

The S-76D helicopter is the latest in the family of popular S-76® helicopters manufactured by Sikorsky. There have been more than 800 S-76 helicopters delivered to the global fleet since 1979, contributing daily to a growing 6 million-plus flight hours.
Designed for safety, reliability and efficiency, the S-76D helicopter’s standard equipment features are all-composite, flaw-tolerant main rotor blades; an advanced THALES integrated avionics system and autopilot; health and usage monitoring system, active vibration control; and powerful Pratt & Whitney Canada PW210S engines. Rotor Ice Protection System for all-weather capability will be available as an option.

ROLLS-ROYCE AND SCOTT’S BELL 47 SIGN MOU FOR NEW RR300 HELICOPTER APPLICATION

Rolls-Royce, the global power systems company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Scott’s – Bell 47 Inc. (SB47) to examine the application of its RR300 engine to the Model 47 multipurpose light helicopter.
Fred Dickens, Rolls-Royce Vice President, Customer Business – Defense, said: “We are delighted to have signed this agreement with Scott’s – Bell 47 on the RR300. The Model 47 helicopter is world-renowned, with over 1,000 in operation, and we look forward to exploring future civil-certified additions to the Model 47 product range powered by the RR300.”

The RR300 engine embodies new technology and advanced design methodology. The engine draws on the proven record of other Rolls-Royce turbine engines to deliver a powerful and dependable engine at a competitive price. The RR300 was FAA type certified in 2007 and since that time over 500 engines have been delivered and it has accumulated over 12,000 operational hours.
Key attributes of the RR300 include: lower acquisition and operating costs; low-weight, compact design; improved specific fuel consumption; an embedded engine monitoring system; and the ability to burn a variety of commonly available jet fuels.
Perú recupera su potencial aéreo

La Fuerza Aérea del Perú recibió en estos días, cuatro helicópteros MI-25 reparados en Rusia, país con el cual tiene contratos de aprovisionamiento y reparación de sus aeonaves, los que han sufrido diversos atrasos por distintas razones. Lo anterior, se suma a la reciente entrega de los aviones Mig 29 de la misma institución, los que fueron reparados y modernizados en su país de origen y ya se encuentran volando en los cielos del Perú, recuperando de esta forma parte de su potencial, el cual por años estuvo desprovisto de los recursos que su mantención demandaba.
Hoy los recursos están, hay un Presidente que conoce las instituciones por provenir de ellas y quizás, el motivo para recuperar el nivel de sus instituciones también está, dado que se prepara para recibir un fallo de la corte internacional de La Haya, a la cual arrastró a Chile para “definir” los límites marítimos en su frontera común, los cuales según Chile, ya se encontraban definidos y concurrió a esta instancia legal internacional de carácter voluntario para zanjar la controversia sin tener nada que ganar, lo que cuesta entender.
Los potenciales armados de ambos países no resisten mucha comparación, pero sólo son números y cifras, cada país los evalúa de acuerdo al conocimiento de su realidad local. Lo que si queda en claro, es que su recuperación de niveles estará a punto a fines del presente año, período en el cual se espera el término del juicio internacional y que provocará mas de un comentario, sin importar el resultado que esta contienda tenga.
Rusia por otra parte, mantiene el terreno ganado en América Latina y continúa una política de abrir nuevos mercados, apoyada no sólo en sus mejores precios de venta, sino también, en razones ideológicas que no puede dejar de lado y que se ha encargado de fomentar en el continente sudamericano. Perú es sólo un punto más en nuestra región y Rusia está interesada en todo lugar al cual pueda entrar. Mientras con unos hace convenios comerciales, a los vecinos de los mismos ofrece armas e instrucción militar, al final, todo suma a sus objetivos de potencia.
Bombardier Secures Orders for Six Global Business Jets
