Le Bourget, France, June 17, 2013– The European Space Agency (ESA) and European Defense Agency (EDA) recently conducted a series of flight demonstrations in Spain to simulate the integration of unmanned aerial systems (UASs) into civilian airspace.
The demonstration was constructed from more than 10 carefully designed tests portraying real scenarios likely to occur in civilian airspace. The Heron 1, a medium-altitude, long-endurance drone, developed and manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), completed all flight tests successfully. The flight demonstrations were timed to coincide with civil and military flights operating from the San Javier base, which shares facilities with Murcia Airport.
