Russian Helicopters and Vertical de Aviacion sign deal for 10 helicopters at MAKS 2013
August 27, 2013
Moscow / 27 August 2013 – Russian Helicopters, a subsidiary of Oboronprom, part of State Corporation Rostec and a leading global designer and manufacturer of helicopters, and Colombia’s Vertical de Aviacion today signed agreements for five Mi-171A1s and five Ka-62s at the MAKS 2013 International Aviation and Space Salon.
Vertical de Aviacion plans to deploy the Mi-171A1s in Mexico for cargo and passenger flights, while the Ka-62s will be used in Colombia to service the oil industry. Deliveries of the Mi-171A1s are expected to start in 2015, and of the Ka-62 in 2016.
“Latin America is a fast-growing market where we see a great deal of potential. Rostec has seven offices in the region – in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela – and we are continuing to expand our presence in the region to open up new markets,” said Dmitry Shugaev, Deputy CEO of Rostec. “South America has been a customer for Russian-built helicopters for many years, and the signing of new agreements underscores that Russian military and commercial equipment is in high demand across Latin America even given intense competition from leading global producers.”
As part of the contracts signed today, Russian Helicopters and Vertical de Aviacion will work together on certification of the Mi-171A1 in Mexico and the Ka-62 in Colombia. In 2012 Colombian aviation authorities successfully completed validation of the Mi-171’s type certification by the Aviation Register of the Interstate Aviation Committee. Vertical de Aviacion was actively involved in this process.
Based at Bogota’s El Dorado International Airport, Vertical de Aviacion is Latin America’s largest commercial operator of Mi-8/17 series helicopters, and currently operates 30 Mi-17s.
The medium multirole Mi-171A1 is based on the Mi-171 and is part of the legendary Mi-8/17 series. It can carry up to 26 passengers or 4,000 kg of cargo, and is produced at Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant, a Russian Helicopters company.
The Mi-171A1 has operated successfully for several years in Latin America. In 2005 the helicopter’s type certification was approved by the Brazilian Aeronautical Register, and in the same year the first machine was delivered to Brazilian company Atlas Táxi Aéreo, which in 2011 received two more of the helicopters. Deployed in demanding environmental conditions to support drilling operations being carried out by Petrobras in the Brazilian rainforest, the Mi-171A1 stands out for its dependability and efficiency.
International interest has been running high for some time in Russian Helicopters’ most eagerly anticipated new model, the medium multirole Ka-62, which will be produced at Progress Arsenyev Aviation Company in Russia’s Far East. Russian Helicopters signed the first export contract for seven Ka-62s in December 2012 with Atlas Táxi Aéreo. The contract for five machines signed today with Vertical de Aviacion is further confirmation of the high levels of international interest in acquiring the latest Russian-built helicopters.
At MAKS 2013 the Ka-62 is on display in prototype form as part of Russian Helicopters’ static display. As well as passenger transport and rescue operations, it can be deployed in the oil and gas sector. Thanks to a roomy and comfortable cabin that can hold up to 15 people, the helicopter is ideally suited for corporate purposes. In addition, the Ka-62 has high cruising speed and low vibration levels, and in terms of range and load is already recognised as one of the best helicopters in its class.
Testing of the Ka-62 is planned to start in 2013, and in 2015 and 2016 Russian Helicopters expects it to obtain certification for international use, including in Colombia, where more than 50 Russian-built helicopters currently operate in the private and state sectors.
The agreement with Vertical de Aviacion is the latest step in Russian Helicopters’ successful development of the South American market, where demand for multirole helicopters is increasing. This is a key region for the development of the helicopter business, and Russian Helicopters is ready to meet growing demand from Latin American markets for the latest helicopters.
Turbomeca and Russian Helicopters sign a MoU on a new Maintenance Center
August 27, 2013
Bordes – Moscow / 27 August 2013 – Turbomeca (Safran) and Russian Helicopters (a subsidiary of Oboronprom, part of State Corporation Rostec) today announced that they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the opening of a new Maintenance Centre.
In the frame of this agreement, Russian Helicopters will provide maintenance Level 1 and 2 activities on Turbomeca engines operated by the Russian helicopter operators. The engines covered are the Arrius 2G1 and the Ardiden 3G, respectively powering the Ka-226T and the Ka-62 helicopters.
This Maintenance Center is part of a global common support strategy aimed at providing a highest level of support to all operators flying with Turbomeca engines in accordance with the best practices and standards.
The new Arrius 2G1 engine with performance in the 700 to 800 shp class, has been tailored to perfectly fit the Ka-226T. This new variant is a derivative engine from the existing Arrius 2, which has proven its durability and reliability worldwide with more than 3000 engines already delivered. To address the requirement of public transport, the Arrius 2G1, among other specific devices, is equipped with a FADEC controlling the power delivery to the helicopter. The engine has been certified in 2011.
Designed for 6 to 8 tonnes helicopters to achieve multiple missions, Ardiden 3 engines offer, under all weather conditions, the most increased performances in the range of the 1,750 to 2,000 shp power engines. The modular design and dual channel FADEC, make the Ardiden 3 highly reliable, with the benefit of low operating costs and an exceptional low fuel consumption (more than 10% less than the others engines in the same range). A contract for over 300 engines has already been signed. Ardiden 3G certification is expected in 2014.
The Ka-226T light multi-purpose helicopter may be operated in urban conditions for high-rise construction works, patrolling, as well as for police operations. Coaxial main rotor system ensures Ka-226T great load capacity and flight height advantages. The Ka-226T is capable of reaching higher altitudes than most other helicopters in its class. Thanks to its maximum climb rate of 10 m/s, low environmental impact and small sound signature, the Ka-226T can operate in various climactic conditions and landscapes, including urban conditions and built-up areas.
Built using new technologies and materials, the new Ka-62 is a single-rotor design, with an enclosed tail rotor and an airframe and propeller blades consisting of over 50% polymeric composite materials. The helicopter will also feature a glass cockpit, a five-blade rotor, secondary hydraulics circuit and energy-efficient wheeled landing gear. The Ka-62 is designed for cargo transportation, medevac and search-and rescue operations, and can also be used in the oil and gas sector and for corporate purposes.
Firm Order for 20 SSJ100 with Ilyushin Finance Co
August 27, 2013
On August 27 2013 in the framework of the International Aviation and Space Salon МAKS Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company and Ilyushin Finance Co (IFC) signed two firm contracts for the delivery of 20 Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft.
The first contract included five SSJ100 LR aircraft in 103-seat configuration. An increased passenger capacity will be provided by means of slimmer seats installation. The first deliveries are expected at the end of 2015. The customer is still negotiated at the moment.
The second contract for customers in the South-East Asia and the Middle East region was concluded for fifteen Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft in its Basic version. The first deliveries are expected in 2015 as well.
«The support provided by the largest financial institutes to Sukhoi Superjet 100 project demonstrates its steady and successful development. Our partners placed the order for two SSJ100 modifications: basic and long range, and we hope that customers will appreciate opportunities provided by the two versions of the aircraft», said Andrey Kalinovsky, the President of the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company.
Sukhoi Superjet 100 LR version differs from the Basic in several respects: it can reach 4578 km and has an increased take-off weight – up to 49.45 tons compensated by the strengthened wing. The SSJ100 LR is equipped with a SaM146 engine with a 5% increased thrust compared to SSJ100 Basic version.
The deliveries will be financed through the support of the Russian Government on financing Russian industrial exports and high-tech products. This support is provided by the Government to banks extending credits to customers buying Russian products.
In June 2013 in the framework of the 50th International Paris Air Show (Le Bourget, France) Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company and Ilyushin Finance Co (IFC) signed the Heads of Agreement (HoA) for the delivery of twenty Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft. The HoA now has been converted to firm order.

Preocupante situación enfrenta Lan Argentina S.A.
August 23, 2013
