FORT WORTH, TX (September 12, 2013) – Bell Helicopter, a Textron Inc. company (NYSE: TXT), announced today it will hold a regional safety symposium for rotorcraft pilots and technicians from across China on Tuesday, September 24 at the InterContinental Beijing Beichen hotel in Beijing, China.

A new initiative for Bell Helicopter, the safety symposium educates maintainers and operators on key safety practices and applications to implement into their daily operations. The effort is tied, in part, to Bell Helicopter’s participation in the International Helicopter Safety Team’s mission to achieve an 80 percent reduction in the rate of international civil helicopter accidents by 2016.

“Maintenance and flight safety are non-negotiable for Bell Helicopter. Over time, we have developed and assembled a series of tools to promote both a safe work environment and safety of flight,” said Eric Cardinali, executive vice president, Customer Support and Services (CSS) at Bell Helicopter. “Sharing these tools with our customers is a natural extension of our safety focus and provides our customers an avenue to further their own safety culture and behaviors.”

The safety symposium was initiated at the request of customers interested in furthering their organization’s safety mindset. The symposium is led by Bell Helicopter staff and will be delivered in Mandarin. The full day session will cover a variety of topics, including human factors, environmental factors, procedural complacency, human physiology and building a safety culture. Through interactive discussions, case studies and presentations, participants will gain a greater awareness of the personal and cultural changes necessary to adopt a safety culture and will be equipped with a “toolkit” of safety practices to help drive such a culture at their own facilities.

“We are excited to host a safety symposium in Beijing,” said Chris Jaran, Bell Helicopter’s managing director, China. “As China’s aviation industry continues to expand, Bell Helicopter wants to ensure our customers are well-versed in how to keep themselves and their crews safe. Bell Helicopter’s advocacy for operational and flight safety is a further testament to our leadership position in the industry and a key example of the value we bring to customers throughout their aircraft’s life cycle.”
