Miami (September 10, 2014) – The 8th ALTA Aviation Law Americas Conference, presented by the Latin American and Caribbean Air Transport Association concluded last week at the Westin Diplomat in Miami, Florida, with the participation of the region´s top airlines and prominent law firms from the Americas.

The conference centered on topics of relevance for legal and finance professionals in the aviation industry of Latin America and the Caribbean. This year the agenda targeted key areas including the application of Anti-trust regulations in an environment highly charged with mergers and multinational commercial agreements plus the harmonization of Passenger Rights throughout the region. The conference´s notable roster of expert panelists also brainstormed on ways to effectively navigate the process of aircraft leasing and returns and shared benchmarking guidelines on the always relevant subject of airport privatizations, producing the do´s and don’ts of airport concessions 20 years later.  Other areas of discussion included the identification of new sources of funding for airlines, the complex taxation environment and the creation of effective tax structures.

Walter Von Rentzell of LAN Argentina commented, “Aviation Law Americas has become a healthy tradition that allows for the meeting and interaction of various stakeholders of the air transport business. We leverage the opportunity to catch up with the latest news and trends in the aviation arena.”

Marc Latman, from Smith, Gambrell & Russell stated, “Year in and year out the ALTA Aviation Law Americas Conference provides the most substantive and wide-ranging of aviation law topics and this year’s event was no exception.” Martyn Plaskett from Beaumont & Son Aviation at Clyde & Co. added, “The 2014 conference in Florida brought together very high calibre speakers focused on topical issues affecting Latin American airlines.   ALTA Aviation Law Americas provided an unmatched opportunity to meet with in-house airline counsel from many of ALTA´s members as well as outsourced specialist aviation practitioners from throughout the region.”

Added Gonzalo Yelpo, Legal Director of ALTA and Aviation Law Americas Conference Chairman, “The goal of Aviation Law Americas is to facilitate learning and professional development and to foster relationships among peers of the legal profession in aviation. We strive to make this the ideal environment to dynamically approach the issues that we face in our day to day business.
