Airbus Helicopters to display an EC145 T2 at Helitech International 2014

September 11, 2014

11 September 2014

Helitech International 2014 kicks off in just over a month at the Amsterdam RAI Convention Centre from 14 – 16 October. The event, run in association with the European Helicopter Association (EHA), can confirm that Airbus Helicopters will showcase an EC145 T2 on its stand; a next-generation helicopter that is perfectly suited for emergency medical services (EMS) missions and law enforcement/parapublic duties.

The EC145 T2 is a twin-engine, four-ton-class, multi-role helicopter that was first presented in 2011. It is the latest addition to Airbus Helicopters’ BK117/EC145 family, which is designed and built in Donauwörth and has enjoyed decades of success. Its improved performance and particular suitability for air rescue missions sets the EC145 T2 apart from earlier models in the BK117/EC145 family.  Among the new features are Turbomeca Arriel-2E engines with dual-channel full authority digital engine control (FADEC) and a Fenestron shrouded tail rotor, along with upgraded main and new tail rotor gear boxes. The cockpit uses the Helionix digital avionics suite with 4-axis autopilot that was developed by Airbus Helicopters. Its outstanding hover performance – even in single-engine situations (one engine inoperative, OEI) – is crucial for flight safety, especially for air rescue missions.

Airbus Helicopters recently concluded the successful handover of the first EC145 T2 to DRF Luftrettung. In spring 2014, the latest addition to the family received certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency EASA and is now ready to take on a wide variety of missions.

The Exhibition will showcase all levels of the supply chain from leading industry primes and rotorcraft suppliers such as AgustaWestland, and Bell Helicopter as well as other leading exhibitors such as Rolls-Royce, Turbomeca, Vector Aerospace and Honeywell down to smaller SME’s such as Trakka Corp, Bucher Group, Concorde Battery and Bitschnau.

There is a strong international dimension again this year; the global footprint ofHelitech International 2014 will include exhibitors from countries such as Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada and thirteen European nations. There are currently over 55 first-time exhibitors from nine countries around the world such as Genesys Aerosystems, ITT Enidine and BAE Systems.

Trakka Corp will be exhibiting the ‘Trakkabeam A800’ searchlight, a fully automated multi-mission searchlight system, with the only internally integrated filter wheel on the market. It is a paradigm shift in engineering and design, which has eliminated the inefficiencies of traditional searchlight technology.  It is installed on over 350 aircraft worldwide and being used for Police, SAR, Border Patrol, HEMS and Military operations.

“I have always seen Helitech International to be one of the highlights of the show calendar as it always delivers a large range of potential customers from all around the world”, said Christian Steward, Sales Manager Europe at Trakka Corp Pty Ltd.

First time exhibitor HeliEFB, focuses on  electronic flight bag solutions for helicopter operators, which can be easily customised and adapted to a range of aircraft types and mission roles, e.g. HEMS, parapublic, search and rescue and offshore. HeliEFB’s technology enables a paperless cockpit and an accelerated, fleet-wide digital distribution process of required on-board documents and revisions.

A new range of light weight mobile power supplies has been launched by leading supplier, Start Pac. Developed in response to a need for a more compact, mobile power supply, Start Pac has released the Start Pac Model 53300, a powerful 300 amp power supply that weighs only 18 kilos (40 lbs). The unit is designed for maintenance and to power up various functions such as inverters, avionics, GPS, and air conditioning so is perfect for maintenance operation or field based operators as well as business jets, medical evacuation, police, fire or rescue operations with high draw aircraft systems.

Curtiss-Wright will display its highly engineered solutions for commercial aerospace helicopter platforms at Helitech International 2014.  The company will be displaying the latest examples of its broad range of industry leading LCD display, mission computing, video management, data recording and storage, air data and data acquisition avionics products.

Moreover, Spacemetric will be exhibiting an airborne ISR sensor data management solution which differs from current solutions, as it allows two-way interaction / co-operation between people in the sky and on the ground using the live sensor data.

Other exhibitors include, Blue Sky Network that are a principal supplier of satellite tracking and communication solutions for the aviation, land mobile and marine industries. Aviation Specialties Unlimited (ASU), develop night vision systems within public and civil aviation operations. Eagle Copters is a group of companies offering engineered solutions to all facets of the helicopter industry, including helicopter sales, leasing, customising, maintenance, repair and overhaul, avionics systems and product development.

“Helitech International 2014 is set to welcome an impressive number of companies from the whole spectrum of the rotorcraft supply chain. The rotorcraft industry will be represented globally on the exhibition floor, while key issues will be debated with some interesting insights to surface as a result through the Education Programme,” said John Hyde, Event Director for Helitech International. “The spread of countries participating in October in Amsterdam is very impressive and confirms Helitech International’s place at the forefront of the rotorcraft industry. Over the three days attendees will be able to witness all the latest rotary innovations.”

EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Sept. 10, 2014 – Boeing [NYSE: BA] has received its first commercial order for the 502 Phoenix small satellite from HySpecIQ of Washington, D.C. The satellites will carry the commercial remote sensing industry’s first high-resolution hyperspectral payload, capable of providing spectral imaging fidelity that far exceeds what is currently available.

Boeing will deliver a complete satellite system initially consisting of two satellites, available for launch in 2018; command and control operations; image processing; and data storage of collected imagery. The contract includes options for long-term operations and maintenance.

“This combines a flexible satellite system design with an innovative business model, demonstrating our commitment to evolve our satellite portfolio into adjacent markets,” said Craig Cooning, president of Network & Space Systems. “Our 502 Phoenix is well-suited for a range of missions that includes electro-optical imaging and remote sensing, space situational awareness and satellite communications.”

Hyperspectral imaging is an information-rich technology that uses spectral color bands to identify objects and materials in an image. More than 200 spectral colors in the visible and shortwave infrared spectrum are collected to uncover diagnostic spectral patterns not visible to the naked eye. The technology provides valuable data and enables the delivery of information products to key markets, including the global oil, gas, mining, agriculture and environment monitoring industries, as well as U.S. government agencies and partner countries.

“Boeing’s in-depth experience in hosting electro-optical payloads, coupled with its unmatched record in the delivery of commercial space systems, was the deciding factor in this award,” said William R. Embraer inaugura Centro de Engenharia e Tecnologia na Flórida

September 8, 2014
