LAN CARGO launches first cargo operations between Switzerland and Latin America

October 31, 2014

·         Launched on Monday 27 October, this is the first cargo operation from the city of Basel to South America
·         The route will operate once a week on a Boeing 777F, the company’s largest cargo aircraft

Thursday 30 October 2014 – Last Monday, 27 October, LAN CARGO, the cargo division of LATAM Airlines Group, inaugurated its first and only cargo operation between the city of Basel in Switzerland and South America. The principal objective will be to increase the cargo transport offering from the region, primarily for the pharmaceutical sector.

The flight departed at 7pm towards Guarulhos International Airport, located in Sao Paulo, Brazil, carrying 82 tons of cargo. The flight concluded at 7am on Tuesday 28 October when it touched down in Santiago de Chile.

The cargo operation will fly every Monday on a Boeing 777F aircraft and its itinerary will be Amsterdam – Basel – Guarulhos (Sao Paulo) – Buenos Aires – Santiago de Chile. The next flight will depart on Monday 3 November and is already being programmed by the LAN CARGO team in Europe. While the main aim of the flight is to assist with the transport of pharmaceutical products, the company also hopes to use the route to transport cargo from the south of Germany and southeast France.

Guido Henke, director of LAN CARGO in Europe, commented “This new direct cargo service to Latin America allows export industries across the region to minimise road feeder service to the different European hubs, saving both time and the need for trucks, as well as minimising risk – a crucial aspect for transporting the high value cargo which is exported from this region.”

The flight will be operated from Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg airport, located on the border between Germany, Switzerland and France. This strategic location opens the possibilities to tap into the transportation of cargo from all three countries. In addition to this, the areas covered also extend to northern Italy and Austria, countries that will benefit from the option to cut down their previously used road feeder service routes and send products by air.

One of LAN CARGO’s principal focuses for Europe is to diversify its locations and incorporate new points of collection into its network, opening up a direct service to South America. Several years ago, LAN CARGO incorporated Germany as cargo operation followed by Amsterdam, which captured cargo from the Netherlands, Benelux, UK and the Nordics. Now, via the incorporation of Basel, LAN CARGO reaches a city that not only plays an important part in the pharmaceutical industry, but also watchmaking and fashion, among other products.

The region will also benefit from the possibility of receiving cargo imports directly from Latin America, most of which will be perishable, without the need for road feeder service.

The cargo division of LATAM Airlines Group transports cargo in all of its passenger planes. Currently, this includes daily flights operated by TAM Airlines from Milan, Paris, Frankfurt, Madrid and London, as well as those operated by LAN Airlines from Madrid and Frankfurt. These services are complemented by the six weekly cargo services operated by the Boeing 777F from Frankfurt and Amsterdam. One of the Amsterdam services is the one that the new Basel stopovers will be incorporated to from Monday.

The SSJ100: Super Optimized Aircraft in the 100-seat market

October 31, 2014

Venice (Italy) – October 31, 2014

Following the agreement (Letter of Intent) signed between the leasing Company “Ilyushin Finance Corporation” (IFC) and the Belgian carrier VLM Airline – for two Sukhoi Superjet 100 with options for additional two plus ten aircraft – SuperJet International is pleased to see the confirmation of the outstanding suitability and the exceptional efficiency of the SSJ100 aircraft in the European market.

Even though it entered into service a few years ago in mid-2011, the SSJ100 has already confirmed its maturity and reliability during operations. The SSJ100 fleet in service worldwide logged more than 60.000 flight hours with the Interjet SSJ100’s maximum utilization in a day of over 11 flight hours. Se anuncian obras aeroportuarias

October 29, 2014

Lufthansa Technik and Airbus renew early Elite cabin-agreement

October 29, 2014

Lufthansa Technik and Airbus Corporate Jets have renewed their ELITE
Cabin Agreement, building on a co-operation which begun in 2005, when
the ACJ318  was launched. The current agreement has been extended
till 2020.

Under the initial Airbus ACJ318 ELITE-cabin agreement, Lufthansa
Technik was contracted to design, in partnership with Airbus, and
then to outfit, the cabins of these aircraft.

The pre-defined cabin of the ACJ ELITE introduced the wider and
taller cabin of the Airbus ACJ320 Family to a broader market, while
continuing to give customers a choice of options and a wide range of
colours and fabrics. These options now also include more floorplan
variations.

Airbus ACJ318s were initially equipped with ELITE cabins by Lufthansa
Technik’s completion center in Hamburg, but the work was shifted
later to the company’s US-subsidiary BizJet International in Tulsa,
Oklahoma.

Deliveries of outfitted Airbus ACJ318s began in 2007, and 19 of them
have been produced so far. They are in service with clients around
the world, including several VVIP charter companies.

The first of an updated version, the Airbus ACJ318 Enhanced, has just
been completed. It introduces as standard several features that were
previously only options – such as domed ceilings throughout the cabin
– as well as introducing further optional features.

To support sales activities and customer talks Lufthansa Technik’s
“Creative Design” department has developed an IT-based configuraton
tool for the ACJ ELITE program which can be used on different
electronic devices. The tool offers the possibility to demonstrate
the large variety of cabin configurations of the ACJ ELITE and to
adapt the cabin layout quickly to individual customer needs including
the visualization of different colour concepts.

Blackhawk Modifications Sees Steady Growth and Interest in Refurbished Turboprop Aircraft

October 27, 2014

“Good as New for One-Half the Cost” a Strong Message in Today’s Turboprop Marketplace
Orlando, Florida, Oct. 22, 2014 –  Blackhawk Modifications Inc., continues to see steady growth and interest in turboprop aircraft upgrades and refurbishments.  More powerful engines, advanced avionics, aerodynamic improvements – all can be added to existing airframes thru the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) certification and installation process.  The result is a refreshed turboprop airplane with like-new levels of performance, safety and capability, all for a fraction of the cost of a new one.
“It’s true that airframes seldom wear out,” says Bob Kromer, Blackhawk’s Senior VP and Sales and Marketing.  “They’re built to last a long time, far longer than the original engines and avionics that came with them.  Incorporating our new PT6A engine upgrades along with advanced avionics installations (such as Garmin G1000), new paint and interior results in a refurbished airplane that very closely resembles a new one, inside and out.  Looks the same, feels the same, performs the same.  The big difference is cost – that refurbished airplane is considerably less expensive.  For those who can’t afford the cost barrier of new airplanes, refurbished ones can save significant amounts of upfront acquisition capital while gaining improved safety, comfort, and performance.”
“Refurbishing King Air 90 and 200 models seems to be the strongest at the moment,” continues Kromer. “Those airframes are sturdy, durable and timeless.  For King Air customers who install our new, more powerful PT6A-135A, -52 or -61 engines along with state-of-the-art avionics, paint and interior, the result is an airplane ready for years of dependable service, with significantly increased resale value. It makes a winning combination.”
“There is nothing like a power boost to complete an aircraft upgrade,” says Jim Allmon, Blackhawk President and CEO. “Power equals performance equals safety.  Blackhawk’s new engine upgrade customers enjoy much stronger climb performance and cruise speed increases of 20 KTAS or more once there.  And in case of an engine malfunction in a twin turboprop, having more available power greatly enhances safety margins. We see nothing but continued growth in the turboprop upgrade market because is just makes good sense.”
