Monaco, 24th September 2008 Monaco Yacht Show
Eurocopter, the world’s leading helicopter manufacturer is present for the 6th consecutive time at Monaco Yacht Show from 24th to 27th September 2008. As one of the first helicopter manufacturers to invest its efforts in support of the yacht industry, Eurocopter’s presence this year is highlighted by an EC130 B4 onboard Lady Christine and an EC155 B1 operated by Heli Air Monaco at Monaco Heliport. With helicopters increasingly being acknowledged as a noteworthy complement to the yacht, Eurocopter dedicates its support to this industry as well as to the business aviation and private market, which alone accounted for more than 20% of the 802 helicopters sold in 2007.
Today, more and more super yachts are being equipped to carry helicopters, which can be a wonderfully convenient, time-saving, comfortable and stylish, not forgetting a safe form of transport. With the ability to take-off and land almost anywhere, helicopters can pick guests up from an airport directly to the yacht or rapidly transport passengers from the yacht to any city or specific place, thus saving time otherwise wasted in congested traffic.
Passengers can spend their time onboard the helicopter relaxing comfortably whilst enjoying the unobstructed view of the surrounding scenery. For business executives who want to make full use of every single minute, the time in the helicopter can also be used for business purposes and meetings thanks to the presence of state-of-the-art info-communications technology onboard.
The main advantage of travelling by helicopters aboard a yacht is therefore to save time, providing yacht owners with the opportunity to spend more time afloat or for sightseeing purposes in remote areas. A helicopter can also provide them with the possibility of replenishing supplies or with the pleasures of heli-skiing for the more adventurous. Moreover, for yacht owners who are qualified pilots, the pleasure of flying would itself be a highly-valued part of the holiday.

The helicopter can offer a greater security if there is a need to urgently evacuate injured or sick people. In order to better respond to the complex shipping and aviation regulations, Eurocopter is working ever more closely with yacht architects and designers in order to integrate a helicopter at the very beginning of a yacht’s life. Thanks to a long and rich experience in the field of naval helicopters, the helicopter manufacturer has the knowledge to adequately advise yacht owners on the best way to manage the yacht/helicopter interface.
Last but not least, Eurocopter also manufactures environmentally-friendly helicopters which are amongst the quietest in the world. For the past few decades, the Group has invested a lot in improving performance and specific fuel consumption. This is in parallel to engine manufacturers who are working on combustion levels, both of which minimize greenhouse gas emissions. Today, Eurocopter is in the forefront for several international research programmes in order to provide innovative solutions in the new global context.
All the above render a helicopter the perfect flying tender to a yacht and not just an extra accessory to have onboard. Today, the use of helicopters on yachts is facilitated by the presence of a growing number of companies which offer yacht owners a turn-key helicopter service including logistics and support activities. Yacht owners can now choose to possess helicopters either through long-term purchase or short-term lease.
The EC130 B4 and EC155 B1 helicopters present at this year’s Monaco Yacht Show are only 2 amongst Eurocopter’s extensive range of light and medium helicopters capable of transporting 4 to as many as 20 passengers. Every single helicopter of Eurocopter’s range can be embarked on yachts (depending on the size and dimensions of the yacht) and benefits from the latest technological progress which Eurocopter has acquired from the long years of experience and leadership in the helicopter market worldwide.
