Sweden’s carrier Golden Air today took delivery of its first new ATR, a 72-seat and PW 127 M-powered ATR 72-500. The airline, which currently operates a fleet of 5 Saab 340B, 5 Saab 2000 and a second-hand ATR 72-500 recently acquired, becomes the first Swedish carrier to introduce the ‘-500 series’ ATRs in its fleet.
Commenting on this delivery, Anders Kallsson, Managing Director of Golden Air, stated: “We are delighted of being the introducers of the ATR ‘-500 series’ in Sweden, and to propose to our passengers the aircraft which features the lowest CO2 emissions and the highest standards of comfort of the regional aviation. We are also very proud of introducing an aircraft well proved and reputed by its reliability and lowest operating costs.” He added: “We are very confident with ATR and we will glad to link the expansion and the upgrading of our airline with these ‘greenliner’ aircraft.”
Stéphane Mayer, ATR CEO, declared: “We are proud of adding for the first time a Swedish carrier in the list of ‘-500 series’ ATR operators. We are pleased to introduce in Sweden aircraft which feature the most modern technologies available today. The ATR aircraft are experiencing a strong success in Northern Europe because of their capability to operate safely in extreme weather conditions and small airfields.” And he added: “We will be pleased to provide Golden Air with all our support in order to optimize the entry into service of these first Swedish ‘-500s’”.
Since the beginning of the programme, ATR has sold 974 aircraft (419 ATR 42s and 555 ATR 72s) and has delivered 806 (401 ATR 42s and 405 ATR 72s), thus posting a current backlog of 168 aircraft.
The ATR –500 series:
With its ATR 42-500 and ATR 72-500, ATR supplies state-of-the-art aircraft with the highest standards of comfort. The advanced six-blade propeller provides remarkably low noise levels. All ATR models are compliant with noise regulations and have a large margin with regard to Chapter IV (ICAO) noise regulations, effective 1st January 2006. The ‘-500 series’ feature the lowest fuel consumption per passenger and CO2 emissions of the regional aviation, thus contributing to make ATR the “Green Player” of the regional aviation.
