NASHVILLE, TN–(Marketwire – May 4, 2009) – EADS North America is showcasing its growing capabilities to meet the U.S. Army’s evolving airlift, combat support and test system needs with a high-profile presence at the 2009 annual convention of the Army Aviation Association of America (AAAA).
The company will kick off its AAAA show presence with today’s announcement of the creation of a new rotary-wing industry team that will offer a new armed scout helicopter solution to the U.S. Army. Dave Oliver, chief operating officer, will make the announcement in front of a full-scale helicopter on the EADS North America exhibit stand (Booth #814).
This new team will build on EADS North America’s success with the Army’s UH-72A Lakota Light Utility Helicopter, which is recognized as one of the most rapid introductions of a new aircraft in the military service’s history.
More than 65 UH-72A Lakotas have been delivered by EADS North America to the Army since November 2006, with all aircraft supplied on or ahead of schedule and within budget. The growing Lakota fleet in U.S. Army service has surpassed the 10,000 flight-hour milestone, demonstrating the aircraft’s mission performance and reliability in operations throughout the United States. To date, 128 Lakotas have been ordered by the Army, with plans to acquire a total of 345 UH-72As through 2016.
An unmanned, GPS-guided cargo load delivery system called the SPADES (Smart Parafoil Delivery System) is on display at the AAAA convention by EADS North America Test and Services. This system has shown its accuracy and delivery capabilities in multiple demonstrations. SPADES is a lightweight and durable system with simple operator controls and interfaces, a low profile form factor, and single point attachment for cargo loads.
EADS North America Test and Services is also showcasing the company’s engine test capabilities, including the Shaft Engine Test Instrumentation (SETI) and Jet Engine Test Instrumentation (JETI) systems, which have been ordered by the U.S. Navy.
EADS North America’s TYX Corporation will focus its convention activities on its family of test management systems, including the SigBase IEEE 1641-compliant signal-based test environment; the Professional ATLAS Work Station (PAWS) collection of automatic testing tools; the Test Requirements Document (TRD) system; and the TestBase development and execution environment for test software.
Also highlighted is EADS A400M multi-role airlifter. The A400M is designed to perform the complete array of theater airlift missions from airland to airdrop, and will be capable of carrying the U.S. military’s newest armored vehicles (including the Stryker, U.S. Marine Corps Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle, Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle and other proposed vehicles). The A400M’s strategic, tactical and air refueling capabilities provide operational flexibility to meet warfighters’ evolving mission requirements at strategic, operational or tactical distances.
