Oshkosh, July 27, 2009 – Becker Avionics announces the introduction of its new high performance, compact, AR6201 VHF-AM Transceiver with 8.33 kHz channel spacing and integrated voice activated (VOX) intercom system for up to four passengers. The AR 6201 continues the legacy of its predecessor the AR4201 VHF-AM transceiver, which has set the bench mark for reliability and performance. With more than 18.000 units sold, the AR4201 has been the trustworthy companion for thousands of pilots flying millions of flight-hours.

The new AR6201 is built using state-of-the-art DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technology resulting in a highly efficient transmitter and very sensitive receiver. The AR6201 represents a quantum leap forward in technology, performance, technical sophistication and robustness.

The AR6201 operates on a frequency range of 118.000 MHz to 136.990 MHz with selectable channel spacing of 25kHz or 8.33 kHz. Standard or dynamic microphones can be used. A voltage meter and OAT (Outside Air Temperature) readout with optional temperature sensor is built in.

By blending a VHF-AM Transceiver and voice activated (VOX) intercom system into one single, attractive unit the operator will not need to invest in a separate intercom system (up to four seats). Further, the new dual monitor mode allows two channels to be received to provide the ability to scan for radio traffic with the built in intercom.

The AR6201 display color and lighting will be compatible to the BXP6401 in the colors ”green” and “white-blue”. An automated built-in-test procedure increases flight safety and reliability. The AR6201 is mountable in a 2 ¼ inch standard instrument hole. The AR6201 will be pin to pin compatible with the AR4201 in order to ensure easy upgrade and replacement.

The new AR6201 will be ETSO and TSO certified and available in the fourth quarter of 2009. The AR6203, the 160mm variant of the AR6201, will be available by the end of 2009.

About AR 6201 VHF Transceiver

The AR6201 VHF-AM transceiver is a quantum leap forward due to the implementation of state-of-art DSP (Digital Signal Processing) technology. It is mountable in the 2 ¼ inch standard instrument panel recess and is equipped with a highly efficient AM-transmitter, a very sensitive receiver and a full graphic LC-display. Push button and display illumination can be dimmed. The AR 6201 offers full 8.33 kHz spacing capabilities, already the new international standard above FL195 and in many countries also below FL195. Switching between the 8.33 and the 25 kHz mode is therefore made effortlessly simple. Standard or dynamic microphones can be used. A built-in-test facility increases flight safety. The dual monitor mode that allows scanning of two different channels is an extra feature. The AR6201 consumes a maximum of 1.2A during transmit and 85mA during receive standby at 12VDC. The unit operates with an input voltage of 9-36VDC. The transmitter power output is better than 6 watts.

The new AR 6201 with its integrated intercom allows the connection of up to four headsets. The Intercom can be activated in two ways. 1. Over a discrete switching input (active low) of the (external) Intercom switch and/or 2. Over VOX, with an adjustable VOX threshold.

The AR6201 is continuing the Becker Avionics airborne radio success story far into the 21st century. Certification according ETSO-2C37e and 2C38e; TSO-C189a.
