On Saturday December 5, the oldest airline in the Americas celebrated its 90th birthday having been launched on December 5, 1919. The airline, founded in Barranquilla, Colombia has operated successfully during nine decades and now has one of the youngest fleets in the region, which includes Airbus A319s, A320s,and A330s as well as Boeing B-757s and B-767s. It currently has 54.8% of the Colombian domestic market and 41.8% of the country’s international market. It operates a total of 63 aircraft serving 42 destinations in 14 countries. And it has now received government approval for a new holding company together with TACA – in which it will own 66% of the company with TACA owning 33%. The combined airlines operate a total of 129 aircraft serving more than 100 destinations in the Americas and Europe and generate $3 billion in revenues.
