Dassault Aviation, Thales and Indra submit a joint MALE UAV offer in Franco-Spanish cooperation to the French and Spanish Ministries of Defence

June 11, 2008

Paris/ Madrid 28 May 2008 – Dassault Aviation, Thales and Indra have signed an industrial agreement covering Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance (MALE UAV) activities. On 22 May 2008 the companies submitted an offer to the French and Spanish Ministries of Defence for a UAV MALE system to be developed within the framework of Franco-Spanish cooperation.

This pragmatic and competitive offer would match the operational needs of both countries, and allow the supply to both Armed Forces of long endurance UAVs for theatre surveillance within a very short timeframe. The first system could be operational as early as the end of 2012.

The proposed solution, managed at a European level by Dassault Aviation, Thales and Indra, entirely fulfills the requirements of both countries by taking into account the current budget constraints while addressing operational needs with a comprehensive high performance mission system, integrating leading technologies. The solution is based on the HERON TP UAV developed by the Israeli company Israel Aerospace Industries. It is a new generation multi-mission platform, whose design benefits from 30 years of Israeli experience in the domain of UAVs.

This joint offer capitalises on strong industrial capabilities acquired in Europe and also covers the technical and managerial skills needed to succeed in such a partnership – aerospace, mission systems, systems architecture and complex systems management. The solution is based on extensive expertise, long lasting cooperation, and is backed by a strong and solid industrial team.

Enstrom Delivers 3 Helicopters to Mexico

May 1, 2008

state-of-guerrero-enstroms.JPGMenominee, MI, April 14, 2008 – Enstrom Helicopter Corporation has just delivered three brand new 480B turbine helicopters to Mexico. Enstrom’s newest international dealer, Aerolineas Ejecutivas S.A. de C.V (ALE), took delivery of the first aircraft for use in commercial operations and as a demonstrator. The other two aircraft went to ALE’s first Enstrom customer, the State of Guerrero. In Guerrero, the state of the art, turbine powered aircraft will be used for law enforcement purposes. Both helicopters are equipped with Sprectrolab SX-16 searchlights, NAT public address systems, Garmin GNS 530 GPS/COM’s, and Bose headsets.

“The Enstrom line has been a good option for us to offer,” comments Jorge Garagarza of ALE. “Many of our customers are looking to get into helicopters for the first time, or are looking for a lower cost helicopter. Enstrom fits the market perfectly. We see a lot of potential here.” Indeed, ALE has already sold a fourth 480B for an aerial filming application, and a number of new opportunities are on the table.

According to Enstrom’s Director of Sales and Marketing, Tracy Biegler, this is another step in Enstrom’s continued push into the law enforcement market. “With over 25 Guardians (law enforcement version of the 480B) delivered, and more prospects on the horizon, this market is really taking off. When you add up the numbers, the 480B is just a great law enforcement helicopter, and people are finally realizing it.” With a number of 480B/Guardian sales pending around the world, Enstrom is confident that the market will be strong for years to come.

Enstrom provided transition training for two Mexican pilots at the factory, and then sent a pilot to accompany the aircraft on their ferry flights. All three aircraft were flown from the frigid northern Michigan factory to the hot and high mountains of Toluca, Mexico near Mexico City. “The aircraft performed very well throughout the extreme temperature and altitude ranges experienced during the flight”, stated Bayard duPont, Enstrom Director of Product Support and CFI. “The new pilots were very impressed with the 480B’s flight and performance characteristics.”
