November 14, 2016

The Mexican carrier will progressively replace and upgrade its current ATR fleet

Mexico City, November 14, 2016 – The turboprop aircraft manufacturer ATR and the Mexican carrier Aeromar today signed a contract for the purchase of 8 firm ATR -600 series aircraft (6 ATR 72-600s and 2 ATR 42-600s). The deal also includes options for 6 additional ATR 72-600s.

The ATR 42-600s will be configured with 48 seats and the ATR 72-600s will have a capacity of 72 passengers. With the introduction of these latest-generation turboprop aircraft, the airline will progressively replace and upgrade its current fleet, which today includes 9 ATR 42-500s, 4 ATR 42-300s and 2 ATR 72-600s. The aircraft will also enable Aeromar to add passenger capacity to boost a number of main routes and create new connections to its regional network across the country. The first of the new ATR -600s will arrive in December 2016. Aeromar is a long-standing partner of ATR, having been operating ATR aircraft for almost 30 years, since it was founded in 1987.

The cabin of the ATR -600s, designed by the Italian firm Giugiaro, features the most modern standards of passenger comfort, including thinner and lighter seats, LED lighting and new overhead bins with 30% additional storage capacity compared with previous ATR versions.

In terms of eco-efficiency, the ATR 72-600 has the lowest environmental footprint in its category, consuming 40% less fuel than similar sized regional jets, which means a saving of up to 5,000 tons of CO2 per year. The ATR -600s are equipped with Pratt & Whitney Canada PW 127M engines

The new avionics of the ATR -600s, developed by Thales, use the same technologies as in the A380 aircraft, substantially decreasing pilot workload and increasing flight path and approach precision thanks to satellite navigation.

Commenting on the deal, Andrés Fabre, Chief Executive Officer of Aeromar, stated: “The ATR aircraft represent the most cost-effective solution for our short-haul network. With a renewed fleet based upon the ATR -600s, our passengers will experience the most modern standards of comfort and service. We are very pleased to further develop this longstanding and highly successful partnership with ATR. We both share a commitment to safety and the passion for technology with an environmental-friendly conscience”.

Tom Anderson, Senior Vice President Commercial and Customer Support of ATR, declared: “For almost 30 years Aeromar has been providing an essential service across Mexico, linking communities and contributing to the development of regional economies. We are proud that the progressive introduction of the new and eco-efficient ATR -600s will enable the airline to continue delivering its passengers the highest quality of service on each and every flight.”

As of today, some 160 ATR aircraft fly over Latin America and the Caribbean under the liveries of 30 airlines. The number of ATRs operating in the region has doubled over the last decade.

Latin America region surpasses 1,000 aircraft sold, A320 continues to prevail

Synergy Aerospace Corporation, largest shareholder of Colombia-based Avianca and owner of Avianca Brasil, has finalized a Purchase Agreement with Airbus for 62 A320neo Family aircraft. These A320neo will be the base of the fleet renewal and network growth strategy for Avianca Brasil, and also marks over 1,000 Airbus aircraft sold in Latin America.

“These A320neo will allow Avianca Brasil to take an important leap toward growing and modernizing its fleet in a profitable and sustainable manner, while improving passenger experience,” said Alex Bialer, Chairman of the Board, Synergy Group. “Thanks to its excellent eco-efficiency, reliability and comfort the A320neo Family will allow us to strengthen our position in South America by offering passengers the best single-aisle product available.”

“Airbus is pleased to be surpassing 1,000 aircraft sold in Latin America with this order by Synergy, and we are proud that Avianca Brasil will rely on the unmatched productivity and fuel efficiency of the A320neo Family to renew its fleet and expand its network in South America,” said John Leahy, Airbus Chief Operating Officer, Customers. “Domestic traffic in Brazil is projected to nearly triple by 2034, placing it among the world’s top 10 fastest-growing traffic flows in the world. These A320neo will allow Avianca Brasil to capitalize on this growth and deliver enhanced performance capabilities in challenging airports such as Rio de Janeiro’s Santos Dumont.”

Synergy became an Airbus customer in 2007 with its order for 10 A350 XWBs. It also has ordered 20 A320 Family aircraft, six A330-200 passenger and one A330-200 Freighter. Today, Avianca Brasil operates 40 A320 Family aircraft and one A330 Freighter.

Growing at a favorable rate of 5.3 percent annually, intra-regional and domestic traffic in Latin America is expected to almost triple in the next 20 years. The single-aisle aircraft is Latin America’s linchpin, and the A320neo will play a key role in securing this future market.

With over 1,000 aircraft sold and a backlog of more than 450, over 600 Airbus aircraft are in operation throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. In the past 10 years Airbus has tripled its in-service fleet, securing over 60 percent of orders in the region since 1990. The A320neo has become the undisputed aircraft family of choice for Latin America, now with 410 firm orders, plus 58 commitments with lessors, from seven customers winning nearly 70 percent of orders in the new generation single-aisle aircraft market.

Scorpion Jet makes FIDAE International Air and Space Fair debut

March 29, 2016

SANTIAGO, Chile (March 29, 2016) – Textron AirLand, LLC, a Textron Inc. (NYSE:TXT) company, today announced the Scorpion Jet is making its show debut this week at the FIDAE International Air and Space Fair.
Scorpion-FIDAE-Debut

“Textron AirLand’s Scorpion is a bold new direction for tactical aircraft and its debut at FIDAE gives us the opportunity to showcase the Scorpion’s flexible multi-mission capabilities to a diverse set of international militaries,” said Bill Anderson, president, Textron AirLand. “The Scorpion is a tactical aircraft that delivers high-end capabilities and performance at a price that completely reverses the rising cost curve that challenges even the most affluent nations to build and sustain their air forces.”

In two years of flight operations, the Scorpion has self-deployed to ten countries, participated in military training exercises and operations, flown numerous U.S. and international military pilots and amassed nearly 600 flight hours. The Scorpion has accomplished all of this with an exceptional availability rating of over 98 percent and a comprehensive cost per flight hour below $3,000, including consumables, system/engine reserves and labor. Using commercial practices, leading edge design technologies and world-class workforce and facilities of Textron Aviation, the Scorpion progressed from a clean-sheet design to first flight in less than 24 months, making it one of the fastest developments of a U.S.-built tactical jet. The first production aircraft is expected to make its first flight this summer, and will be available for prospective customer flights and evaluations soon after.

The Scorpion’s modular architecture provides the capability to rapidly reconfigure mission payloads, including sensors and weapons, enabling one aircraft to master diverse missions yielding significant acquisition cost savings, operation flexibility, reduced logistics footprint and training benefits. The Scorpion excels in many roles, including armed reconnaissance, maritime control, close air support, intermediate and advanced jet training, strike, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief.
