Singapore, February 4, 2010
Eurocopter Southeast Asia (ESEA), subsidiary of the world’s leading helicopter manufacturer, today announced its first sales contract with Thailand’s Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment (MNRE) for one EC135 aircraft. The sale follows the establishment of Eurocopter’s first branch office in Thailand in December last year.
The EC135’s outstanding performance, high versatility and low noise level make it an ideal tool for various public authority operations, ranging from patrol and airborne surveillance to Police and EMS missions. The light, twin-engine helicopter will be delivered to the MNRE in December 2010 and will be utilised for exploration & surveillance flights to help preserve natural resources and protect the natural environment of Thailand.

Dassault’s Falcon 7X BMW Interior Option Wins Design Award

February 5, 2010

(Teterboro, New Jersey, February 5, 2010) – Dassault Falcon and BMW Group
DesignworksUSA were recently awarded the prestigious “Good Design” award for 2009
by The Chicago Athenaeum and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design for
their successful collaboration on the new Falcon 7X interior option.
Founded in Chicago, Illinois in 1950 by architects Eero Saarinen, Charles and Ray Eames
and Edger Kaufmann Jr., “Good Design” bestows international recognition upon the
world’s most prominent designers and manufacturers for advancing new, visionary and
innovative product concepts, invention and originality.
According to the Chicago Athenaeum, “BMW Group Designworks USA’s interior for the
Dassault Falcon 7X offers defining features, including uncompromising cabin comfort
for temperature monitoring, thermal controls and custom-crafted interior furnishings.”
Introduced at European Business Aviation Convention and Exhibition (EBACE) in May,
2009, the new interior will be available for deliveries starting in the third quarter of 2011.

The new Falcon 7X cabin option introduces subtle curves throughout the interior. A
single arc carpet element visually stretches the cabin and connects the interior front to
back. Curved bulkheads visually expand the main cabin volume while subtle curves in
the galley and main cabin create better flow. Cabin lighting techniques feature up-wash
and down-wash ambient lights as well as light strips. The combination of new lighting
and more contrast between the carpet, the side walls and headliners emphasize openness,
spaciousness and comfort. The final result is an elegant and styled cabin fused with
function.
The 5,950 nm Falcon 7X has the longest range of any Falcon business jet. Special
attention was given to enhancing its cabin comfort for flights lasting up to 13 hours.
Since its entry into service in 2007, the 7X cabin has set a new standard for business jets.
It presents a large and bright cabin with 28 windows which are 10% larger than previous
Falcons. It also features a low in flight cabin altitude of 6,000 feet, even while flying at
51,000 feet, and an advanced temperature control system that maintains the environment
to within one degree throughout the entire cabin. The 7X is also praised by its passengers
for its “library quiet” cabin which is the result of breakthroughs in design, materials and
cushioned engine mounts.

Albacete, February 04, 2010
Eurocopter and the Spanish Ministry of the Interior have signed a contract for the purchase of twelve EC135 P2i helicopters. Spain’s National Police Force will operate six of the new aircraft for law enforcement missions, while the remaining six will join the current fleet of the Spanish Guardia Civil. One of this latter group of helicopters will be configured for mountain rescue missions.
The agreement calls for an initial delivery of four helicopters in 2010. Four more helicopters are to follow next year, and the remaining aircraft will be delivered in 2012. The 12 helicopters acquired under this new contract will join the 14 EC135s already operated by the National Police Force and the Guardia Civil (seven each). Two additional contracts are in the works and will subsequently bring the total number of EC135s up to 51, thus completing the ambitious helicopter modernization program of Spain’s law enforcement agencies.
Eurocopter CEO Lutz Bertling declared on this occasion: “We are particularly pleased to sign this landmark agreement with the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, as it illustrates yet again Eurocopter’s position as the leading helicopter manufacturer for public service missions. It is also gratifying for us to reach a new agreement with Spain, the third domestic country of the Eurocopter group.”
“This contract with the Ministry of the Interior proves once again that we made the right decision to set up new industrial activities in Albacete,” added Juan Carlos Martínez Sáiz, CEO of Eurocopter in Spain. “Spain now ranks among the top tier countries manufacturing helicopters, and I would like to thank the Spanish government for their renewed vote of confidence in the EC135. This helicopter is a remarkable worldwide success story, and I am convinced that Spain will be fully satisfied with this new aircraft.”
All 12 helicopters covered by the contract will roll off Albacete’s EC135 assembly line, which is one of two lines that Eurocopter operates for the light twin-engine helicopter, along with the assembly line in Donauwörth, Germany. 11 of the 12 helicopters will be equipped for IFR flights.
The twin-engine EC135 is a highly sophisticated, multi-purpose helicopter featuring cutting-edge technology that makes it the perfect choice for public safety missions. It has been the preferred choice of parapublic operators worldwide for more than a decade. To date, Eurocopter has delivered more than 850 EC135s to customers in 40 different countries. Approximately 50 EC135s are currently operated by different customers in Spain.

Airbus Military A330 MRTT refuels AWACS

February 1, 2010

The Airbus Military A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) has passed another key milestone with the refuelling of a Boeing E-3F AWACS airborne early warning aircraft – the first time the A330 MRTT has refuelled another large aircraft.
Demonstrating the stability of this class of aircraft during air-to-air refuelling is an essential exercise to be completed not only to satisfy the certification authorities, but subsequently the operators. The E-3F is considered to be a particularly significant type because of its aerodynamic characteristics due to the large radome mounted on the back of the aircraft. The A330 MRTT passed this trial with flying colours.
The aircraft, operating from Getafe, Madrid performed a series of dry and wet contacts during two sorties with a French Air Force E-3F.
In the first flight, four contacts were performed during a 3hr 55min mission and 12.1 tonnes of fuel was transferred.
In the second flight a total of 17.5 tonnes of fuel was transferred. The flying was conducted at around 20,000ft and 250kt, and the centreline-mounted refuelling boom was used for all the transfers.
The A330 MRTT has now conducted a total of more than 200 wet and dry contacts during the development programme and transferred nearly 100 tonnes of fuel.
Antonio Caramazana, Vice President and Head of Airbus Military Derivatives, said: “This is a significant milestone in the programme. The E-3 AWACS is a challenge because of its aerodynamics characteristics due to the large radome. The AWACS crew reported that the handling of the aircraft was very smooth during the refueling operation. We are delighted with the performance of our A330 MRTT and with our advanced refuelling boom.”
